lip primers-do they work?

I am starting to wear my red lipsticks again , inspired by being on the french thread. However, they seem disappear I possibly lick them off within minutes.
Someone mentioned lip primers and I wondered whether they make any difference and if so which ones actually worked?

I would recommend a liquid lipstick?

I have tried Mac prep & prime lip but haven’t noticed a difference really, it does make my lipstick look nicer on (fills in lip lines, helps for drying lipsticks) but I can easily live without it

Sorry, not sure about primers, I was wondering the same, however the last thing I need is another product that doesn't get used!

Also try

  • using lip liner in a similar shade all over before the lipstick
  • Using normal primer on your lips first, my sister does this and swears it works
  • blot and reapply

I was also very sceptical but inspired by French thread decided to give it a go, and I'm impressed. Key seems to be to leave it for 5 minutes before applying lipstick.

I was wondering if anyone had experience of brands that really made a difference?
i can't find any reviews inline that aren't via magazines and bloggers ( whom I don't trust to be impartial).
mowglik I know what you mean about buying yet something else that you won't use!

I have Too Faced Lip Insurance and its fantastic - my lipstick has lasted all day, no feathering etc.

I used to use Boots No 7 but they seem to have stopped doing lip primers.

As someone has said, apply then leave for a minute before putting lipstick on.

ProperLavs · 20/12/2017 17:21

Thanks, the two faced one is the one that seems to be mentioned. Although the reviews I have read say it's brilliant for lip gloss but not so much for lip stick. I think I'll give it go anyway though Smile

I have ELF's lip primer and that deffo works for me. Cheap too.

Cheekyandfreaky · 20/12/2017 22:52

I think using them brings the colour out truer, otherwise ones natural lip colour can change the effect of the colour.

Mac Prep and Prime - apply and leave until it is almost dry and has gone tacky, and then apply lipstick. It doesn't work properly unless you do this.

My other one is Guerlain Kiss Kiss, which I think is best used on the edges of the lips to prevent feathering. It is a slight beige-y colour, and although this does have the effect of keeping lipstick colours true, I personally don't need this as I tend to wear strong colours anyway.
