Do they still sell these retro perfumes anywhere?

I'm feeling a bit nostalgic and I was wondering if the following perfumes are still available in high street shops/department stores in the UK:

TAMANGO by Leonard
LA NUIT by Paco Rabanne
MUST by Cartier
MAGIE NOIRE by Lancome
ANAIS ANAIS by Cacharel (think I've seen it in a John Lewis)
CACHAREL POUR HOMME by Cacharel
EAU SAUVAGE by Dior

They do Anais Anais in Boots, along with Eden Lulu etc.

MorrisZapp · 19/12/2017 22:31

Sauvage is the one Johnny Depp advertises. I know because I said a brilliant meme where they changed it to Sausage.

Justgivemesomepeace · 19/12/2017 22:31

Anais anais is all over the place. I even saw it in Morrisons. I love it and still wear it. It was the first proper perfume I ever got in about 1984!

LtGreggs · 19/12/2017 22:34

Anais Anais - my favourite and I wear it often. It's in Boots, John Lewis etc.

I think the cacharel pour homme is still about too?

ReallyExhaustedLlama · 19/12/2017 22:36

I used to love one called Vanderbilt I think... would love to smell it again!!

Longdistance · 19/12/2017 22:37

B&M have had some retro fragrances.

PaxUniversalis · 19/12/2017 22:39

Thanks. I must get myself to a larger Boots. Our local one is small and they don't sell it. Or I can order it online. I like to see and touch the perfume bottles before I buy them though.

I got Anais Anais in the early 1980s and I still love it too.

@ReallyExhaustedLlama

Oh I used to have the Gloria Vanderbilt perfume too. It was given to me by my then boyfriend. I think I remember the bottle was made of 'frosted' glass or something.

I’ve just looked on Amazon, and they’re all listed there. Though didn’t see if in stock.

PaxUniversalis · 19/12/2017 22:45

@Longdistance

That's brilliant. I'd never thought of buying perfumes on Amazon. Good idea. Thanks.

My first boyfriend bought me Vanderbilt too! It has a swan carved into the bottle.

HuskyMcClusky · 19/12/2017 22:50

The one in the flat oval bottle with the swan on the front? Came in a pink box? They still sell it lots of places in Aus, for about $20. It was my absolute fave too, in about 1990! Loved it. Smile

PaxUniversalis · 19/12/2017 22:52

@HuskyMcClusky

Yes, the swan and the pink box. Now I remember! Oh happy days.

I can recall events of the past by smelling certain perfumes. Can anyone else do this?

Absolutely! I love it.

IPokeBadgers · 22/12/2017 13:29

Sadly some perfumes eg Lulu have been reformulated and are nowhere near as nice as they once were...I know because I have a small bottle from the early 90s and compared it with one currently on sale in Boots.....the modern version is harsher and doesnt jave tjw same sexy dry down. I don't know if the likes of Anais Anais have also been cheapened?

endehors · 22/12/2017 13:39

Anais Anais doesn't smell the same as I remembered. Would that be fair to say? My best friend used to wear it as her best perfume, her everyday perfume being Body Shop White Musk.

CambozolaDreams · 22/12/2017 13:46

Anais Anais, Magie Noire and Sauvage are still widely available, although the latter two have definitely been reformulated.

If you want samples of original formulations - ebay is your friend.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 22/12/2017 13:58

You need Anais Anais with "originale" on the box. It was reformulated but "originale" is as near as you'll get to the 1980s one. I am never without a bottle, it's one of my comfort food perfumes.

Animation86 · 22/12/2017 15:13

On another thread i read original Sauvage is now Sauvage Extreme, for the proper version.

seb1 · 22/12/2017 22:24

I bought some YSL Paris recently (in the 80s I wore that or LouLou ) and the Paris didn't smell the same

PerfumeIsAMessage · 23/12/2017 06:17

Paris has been slightly reformulated, and of course there are now eleventy billion flankers.
You can.luckily pick up 80s Paris on ebay quite easily. Look for the black/pink more matte boxes.
Oddly the (iirc) Premieres Roses (I'll check later) flanker to me smells more like the original than the reformulation of the original.

Auldspinster · 23/12/2017 06:23

Eau Sauvage and Sauvage are different fragrances.

demirose87 · 23/12/2017 07:01

I've seen vanderbilt in B and M.

hollyisalovelyname · 23/12/2017 12:51

Why won't Coty bring back Wild Musk ? Sad
