Gym/running vest without racer back

It's not very seasonal, but I'm trying to find a sleeveless gym vest without a racer/twist back. Do they exist?? I bought my current one from a running shop but it's really old now and a bit minging if I'm honest, but I can't seem to find an equivalent. The only reason is that I wear a sports bra with normal straps so I don't want them to show, but everything seems to have either a racer or twist back, flimsy straps (I'd like my bra straps covered) or mesh back. I need one that's long in the body too, so my midriff doesn't show (long body, short legs), and which doesn't have a high neck, preferably plain (no slogans). Has anyone seen one, or knows where I might find one please??

Me too. This drives me nuts. All yoga tops are like this too as if only women who don’t need a bra do yoga. Where are the ordinary women designing sportswear for women?

stringbean · 19/12/2017 09:55

Exactly!! It's as though manufacturers expect exercise to be done by waif-like reeds with no boobs - so why on earth would they need a bra? I need to strap the puppies down if I'm swinging a kettlebell!!

I have a nice marled one with round neck from Matalan. The only feature is a dense mesh panel down the centre back that you can't see through. Sweaty Betty do them too, if you want to spend £££. The "Athlete seamless " top is in their sale at the moment.

Thanks XC - I will check out Matalan. The SB top has a racer back though, so not what I'm looking for.

I know, but it matters to me. My sports bra is not a thing of beauty (a Triumph thing with wide straps) - but it's a good fit and I searched ages to find one that was right, so don't really want to go through it all again in attempt find something more aesthetically pleasing. How hard can it be to find something with normal straps ie. not cutaway?

not sure where you live - in the UK theres TK maxx i think its TJ maxx in the US
i got most of my gym stuff from there as its designer but cheaper and a great variety
a site called gym shark has a lot of different styles or another brand is ASICS they have normal vest tops - i believe i own two
i also have an IVY park vest top - its low on the sides but a high neck and full back (by far my favourite one though)

I've had some from M&S sportswear range and H&M. I think both were in £15 - £20 range.

PersonAtHome · 19/12/2017 11:27

This drives me nuts too. I don't want stupid cutaway backs I want to cover my bra straps!

I was looking recently and found some vests without cutaways in women's sportswear on next.co.uk but I didn't like any of them as the non cutaway ones were usually too high at the back.

Come on designers, sort it out!

My other big grrrrr like this is swimwear - all of a sudden you can't find swimwear with bra support without the costume having a stupid keyhole thing at the back that your flesh bulges out of.

passtheharibo · 19/12/2017 11:56

Try searching for 'running tank top' instead of 'running vest'. There's a few still around, I have some Ronhill ones.

MikeUniformMike · 19/12/2017 12:38

I would go to a sports shop or order on line. Makes like Ron Hill are really good quality.

I wish that sports bras came in more colours. I don't want white as it goes grey quickly. I don't want pink or purple either.

Why is it so difficult to find a proper swimsuit that has support.

sayhellotothelittlefella · 19/12/2017 13:28

I got one in Debenhams

stringbean · 19/12/2017 16:31

Thank you all for your replies! Never occurred to me that M&S might have something suitable, but there are a couple of options there, and I've also found a Ron Hill top that fits the bill too.

Also have a look at Bravissimo - they have a sportswear range and although the vest tops have cut outs etc they are designed to cover bra straps.

HappyHoppy · 19/12/2017 19:59

I got a sleeveless one with full back from Uniqlo last summer. Not sure they sell their Airism sports range at this time of year, though?

thesoo · 21/12/2017 11:11

Sweaty Betty have a couple of vests without a racer back in their sale at the moment. Reduced down from around £45 to £15.
