How to wear culottes?

I bought a pair of black Devin culottes from Hush in the 20% offer. I think I quite like them, but have never worn culottes before, and I'm a bit unsure how to style them. Will opaque tights and leopard trainers work? I can't wear heels, ever, and I'm not sure my Chelsea boots are working. I think the tights/trainers combo looks ok, but I always lack confidence if it's something new to me, and imagine people sniggering at me as I walk past.

I'm struggling with this too. I've found that with all cropped trousers (regardless of style or width) I have to be really picky about length and that they need to end at the top of my ankle not the end of my calf. We're probably talking less than half an inch but it makes a huge difference. Culottes (and that's another thing - are they the same are cropped widelegs?) are often mid-calf length so it's a similar effect as a midi skirt - I look dumpy unless I add boots. But then none of my boots look right - they're either not high enough and sometimes too wide or they're knee high and that looks odd too.

It's beginning to feel like a plot to make me go out and buy more boots and I'm not playing along!

I wear my black culottes with black tights and silver brogues, I think it works really well. They also look good with my tan heeled knee boots but ankle boots I can get to work

Flo, these are a bit longer than I expected (which is why I like them, I think). They probably hit the slimmest bit of my leg. They also have concealed splits that end just above the knee - you don't see them when I'm standing still, but they open when sitting or walking. Im not really sure of the difference between long culottes and wide crops either, although I do think these look more skirt than trouser for some reason. paintbox - silver brogues, you say...now that's tempting.

I think the leopard trainers should work.

They do look nice cherries. I'm really at a loss. With any other style of crops, I like brogues and a flash of either ankle or sock - don't mind which. But with a wider leg I only like a bare ankle. (This is on me, I'm not talking about other people). So at the moment, I'm just not wearing them. I'd love to find a solution that didn't involve buying yet more boots!

It sounds great to me. I think a bit of colour such as the trainers works really well. What about Burgundy or other coloured tights or socks Floisme.
I think culottes are shorter generally and may have more fabric to give a slightly fuller look than wide legs. That's in my mind anyway.

Did the trick.

I would not wear them with Chelsea boots as you don't think they look right. Wear with boots or flats.
Leopard trainers with them sounds good.

Thanks Zxyzoey31 I've tried coloured socks, stripy socks, fishnet tights or socks....I like them all with narrow leg crops but not with a wider leg. At first I just thought I needed to adjust to the look but it's still not happening!

They’re styled with opaques and ankle boots on the hush website and look good like that. I love culottes and am still wearing them in the cold, usually with thermal fleece tights on under.

They also look nice with slouch knee boots either flat or heeled

Finally Hush had a returned pair of these in my size so I’ve snagged them as my final clothing purchase of the year. Will now bookmark this thread for ideas on how to wear!

a long slim fit boot under the culotte?? looks very chic i think when i see that with an oversized knit.
