Help me fix my mum bob

Hi, I’ve had my hair cut into a bob and it just looks a bit flat and boring. I feel like a bit of a plain Jane.
Does anyone had any advice/styling tips/products that might help??

Could you mess it up a bit, perhaps rough dry it and add some salt spray so it looks like a messy bob a bit like these

Unfortunately from my experience you can only get away with a bob with blow drying your hair and product. I was hoping for more of a ‘wash n go’ but just looks really flat if I don’t dry it.

Agree with salt spray. I blow dry, straighten (curly hair) and then rough it up with a bit of salt spray and look -slightly- better.

I do the “blow dry hair then rough it up thing too. I don’t use salt spray though, I use hair spray, let it dry then rough up my hair. It stays put too.

Definitely 100% the colour - I mean an expert level combination of balayage/lowlights/highlights (not just your basic highlights). This will really transform your bob

abc What sort of bob is it?
I've decided to have mine cut into a chin length bob and am keen to have dedicated obsessive amounts of time planning how to avoid the dreaded 'mum bob'! My research tells me that you need some sort of statement fringe and to blowdry it so that it is all sleek and swingy! Or, go for the artfully messy bob option.

I sometimes put mousse in at roots, twist about 6 sections and put in rollers. By the time I have everyone ready in the morning it’s dry (or blast with hairdryer) and then take out rollers before leaving the house and run fingers through. A bit of hairspray will hold the curls better, but you’ll have a wavy bob.

Thanks everyone.

I’ve been trying to mess it up a bit but I just look a bit unhinged!!

It’s about shoulder length at the front and shorter at the back with balayage.

I’ve been blowdrying with volumising moose or heat spray but by the time I’ve done the school run it looks shit again.

Any product recommendations?? Or ideas for a fringe that won’t make me look like a Lego girl?!

Why not go for a radical daring colour? Something a little full on ie if you're mouse go full on blonde, auburn go full red. I always think shorter hair styles look awesome with bold colour x

BTW I'm a tad obsessed with bold coloured hair as mine is jet black and I can't have it any other colour. Constant source of disappointment!

Oh no! What’s a Mum bob?! Now wondering if this is what mine is??! Mines very thick. I straighten it and then mess it up (messes itself up). But not sure if it falls into the Mum Bob category. Any pics of Mum bob so I can avoid?!

Try a big fat curling wand and wrap sections round facing away from your face? If you put some large curls in then finger comb them out they should stay in for a couple of days.

Don’t feel paranoid [zippy] bobs look great and suit so many, I think what can make a bob look a bit dated is if it is a bit too curled under at the ends with curled under matching fringe just avoid that look and you’re good to go.

I had this cut and it was the most miserable year of my life trying to get volume/texture into it!! I think dry shampoo is good to fire in at the roots to give texture, or some root volumising powder and using a fairly big barrelled tongs to give some random curl. It used to take me around 45 minutes longer to get ready every morning . I think you have to have a really really good cut and layers to get this cut right........

Same here.... I felt it aged me, at a time when I WAS naturally ageing with menopause and I hated it.

I have naturally wavy hair.
My bob looks at its best IMO when I’ve added a few smooth waves with my GHDs. Gives it a bit of volume and smooths the bit of frizz I get because I’m too lazy to blow dry.

I have mine one length all around with very slight bangs so that I don't look like a horse. Works ok-but it may be because my hair is super thick so it looks like I've blowdried (albeit with zero skill). You may also want to co sided pinning your hair back sometimes if it suits you face shape better. You can just sweep the front away from your face and secure with bobby pins and a bit of hair spray.
