Hi all,

Please help me, this is such a minefield! My wife has mentioned that she needs a new moisturising lotion/cream and also dropped it in that maybe she should start using some anti aging products to remove fine lines etc. She's 31 and I know she previously used Clinique Dramatically Different then moved to an Olay cream but said both seemed to lose their effectiveness.

I've done some research and it seems that retin(oid) is an effective treatment long term. So I've come up with the following so far

Biore - UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence

The Ordinary

  • Buffet
  • Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
  • Granactive Retinoid 2% or 5% in Squalane,
  • 100% Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil

How does that look? I guess I still need some sort of day cream which is what she originally asked for - any recommendations? Ideally under £35 ish.

Thanks in advance
Paul

Boots no7 protect & perfect is affordable & supposed to be effective in that age range

The Ordinary is amazing. Throw in the AHA and BHA (red liquid) and you have a winning package. For moisturisers, the best I have ever used are the Paula's Choice range. Find one that suits her skin type. I have very dry skin and it's amazing for me. Best I've ever tried.

Also, you are amazing for researching for her. Just saying.

She'll be dead chuffed if you get her The Ordinary stuff.

PaulHa · 14/12/2017 10:53

Thanks all. How is the ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA? Should I be looking at a serum too? So many options lol

I love that you've put so much effort into researching this for her!

Anything by Dermalogica is always good, and she'll be impressed. Another thing you could do is get her a voucher for a facial at a reputable salon, and the beauty therapist will be able to assess her skin and recommend the right products.

Great efforts! I really liked it, you are taking all efforts to impress your wife.

UnicornInTraining · 14/12/2017 11:15

I am the same age as your wife and a former user of Clinique - I now use Immortelle by l'Occitane and Nirvanesque by Nuxe. Both are very good and their smell is amazing. I have not used any of the brands you mentioned.

I think that what you are doing is absolutely lovely! Finding the right skincare is a bit of a minefield though - perhaps you could collect various samples from a department store (give your best lost puppy look to the beauty advisors!) and give your wife a voucher for the product she likes best?
She might also like Biotherm Aquasource (lighter textures, their serum is amazing) and Kiehl's (tend to have more natural ingredients)

Boots no 7 is wonderful stuff and they have a lovely gift pack out at the moment for £20. I personally like the youthful range :)

I quite like the idea of Neal's Yard Frankincense Hydrating Cream as it fits well with Christmas with the Frankincense and Myrhh

This will be £39 tomorrow - will it compliment the The Ordinary stuff?

Can you speak to my dh please?! I can give him a link to the exact item and still get something completely different! I'm sure she will be really happy with your chosen set, The ordinary is a good choice. If you can stretch to it why not give her a voucher for a facial too!

PaulHa · 14/12/2017 13:53

Lol @LazySusan11 I wish I was given links!

Lovely thought, but unfortunately I can't get her a facial too - she's already getting a makeup brush set, perfume, soap and glory products and ted baker phone case :D
