My "natural" hair is white, it was low lighted 3 shades of blond, light, mid, and dark which looked light brown to me, did my hair today with l 0;real cream excellence natural ash blond, 8.1,looks NOTHING like the pack, wanted a light ash or beige shade, no gold. At a pinch you could say its very dark ash, to me it looks mid brown, I hate it, its so dark (my natural colour before white was very light brown/blond a a child. I cannot afford a hairdresser, which is why I coloured it myself, what do I do.

Toner? Ketchup? Both of these things have saved my self-dyed blonde hair in the past when it’s gone a bit wonky. I buy blue toner in Boots/Superdrug for about £4 and leave it on for an hour or so. This takes any yellow tinge out. I then rinse and wash then comb through ketchup or tomato purée and leave that on for an hour or so. Then wash out and condition. That takes out any brown/grey tinge. End up with blonder hair as a result.

you should have gone back to your hairdresser. they probably wont do a free correction now as you've coloured it yourself...it's not always easy to get the colour on the box as as ut depends on what pigments/tones are in your hair beforehand. the only way you can get it light again is to bleach it.

could you go to a salons training day? colour is usually between £10-20. lots of the trainees are more than capable of colouring.

Local colleges have training appointments. Our local college has a good reputation. Don’t use anything yourself....it’ll get worse.

I havent got an yellow tones, I dont have a hairdresser as such, couldnt afford to stay with the one I had for years when I was working it was OK, but now out of my price range and an 80 mile round trip, found one a few miles away, then she left, when the salon was taken over, as did the next one, found another one, even further away, which was recomended but she cut my hair which was past my shoulders, I showed her the pic, said NOT to cut too much off the back, so she agreed to cut it then show me, well when she showed me it was half an inch long, as short as my DH hair, THEN she asked if I wanted any more off, no I want 6 inches put back.I am sure I am not the only one this has happened to!
