Hi, I am looking for a nice perfume for a gift for someone in their early 60s who likes Estée Lauder youth dew, Thierry mugler Angel, Poison etc. Any ideas of similar scents that will suit?
Possibly a newish fragrance would be preferred. Thanks.

I'd say go for the newest Mugler "Aura" - she'll undoubtebly (like me) have fond memories of Germolene........ Xmas Smile

Eringray · 12/12/2017 17:58

Cinnabar perfume by Estee Lauder has a similar scent as far as I know.

HildaZelda · 12/12/2017 18:19

Does Samsara still exist? It's pretty strong but if she likes Angel and Poison then it would be along those lines too.

Kion · 12/12/2017 18:50

Thanks Cardoon 👍 I will give that a try out. Yes indeed with the germoline 😊.

I love Poison, but people are always surprised when I say that it is what I have on.

I also wear Insolence, and Gloria Vanderbilt (they are quite similiar imo) Insolence is newer I think, GV is donkey's years old.

Hypnotic Poison in the red is spicier, and more like Cinnabar. There is a new Poison out...i did not like it though, it smelled sticky.

I think Clinique Aromatics is a very "medicinal" smell....my mother loves it and it smells totally different on her than in the bottle so that might be worth looking at

She also adores Paris and Opium, but they literally vanish off her so it's a total waste her buying them!

Not sure about Samsara Hilda but thanks. Flashback to my youth that one Smile.

I like youth dew and the other day I tried Michael kors sexy Ruby? Terrible name! I think that's what it was called. It was really nice.

Kion · 12/12/2017 19:06

Thanks mshomeslice that's a lot to go on there too. I'm liking the sound of the new poison, I wasn't aware of that. She may like it if it's nice and strong. Also Insolence, I will try that one too. She is a fan of opium too actually so these are great suggestions 👍.
Can't go for aromatics unfortunately as an ex's not so dm used to wear it and I have a phobia against it now Grin
Thanks again all for these suggestions, that's great, I have a list now I can go to the perfume place with. Sorry for all the typos and lack of bold highlights on names etc but I'm feeding my baby on one arm x

Black Opium (nothing like the original Opium) is sweet and heady like the Mugler's.

FoofFighter · 12/12/2017 19:26

Try Mon Guerlain.

DeltaG · 12/12/2017 19:28

Wish by Chopard is a more gourmand/sweet version of Angel.

Go on Fragrantica and have a look at others similar to hose you've mentioned to get some more iseas.

StiltonForDays · 12/12/2017 20:19

If she likes Poison, other big 70s/80s powerhouses come to mind - Shalimar, Samsara, Coco Chanel, Obssession, Magie Noire?

The Poison flankers are also almost all good quality (although nothing like the original) - Hypnotic Poison and Pure Poison are especially good.

Angel has spawned a lot of the youth-marketed sweet perfumes, but some more classic sweet and heady (as in Angel) perfumes with good projection - Dior Addict, YSL Cinema, YSL Manifesto.

Hollyhobgoblin · 12/12/2017 20:28

How about Womanity?

PerfumeIsAMessage · 12/12/2017 20:31

Shalimar or Opium. Cinnabar came out at around the same time as Opium but not having the foresight to throw a semi naked Jerry Hall onto a couch and give their perfume an edgy name, it never took off as well, despite being pretty similar.
Clinique Wrappings is also in the YD mode, they only bring it out at Christmas. It's very nice with a hint of warm spice.
Something sandalwoody might also fit if she likes classic not too sweet and slightly warm spicey? Dune, Allure, Coco, Tam Dao etc all worth a spritz.

mrsreynolds · 12/12/2017 21:22

Opium by ysl
Obsession by ck
Cinnabar by estee lauder
Shazam by 4610 Tuesdays

Thanks everyone for all these suggestions. That's fantastic! . I will report back how I get on.
