Shirt dresses - do they work on apple shapes?

I've seen a few lately that I think would be lovely with boots and tights. I'd like some casual dresses for the Christmas season.

I am unfortunately a short, overweight apple. 18 on top,16 on the bottom.

I tend to think of them as a style that suits pear shapes but it's not a style I've ever worn so I could be missing out.

Due to being slap, bang in the middle of nowhere I won't get to try on unless I order online.

Opinions welcome and suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

I wouldn't call the second and third ones shirt dresses! But I do love the fat face one, and think it would be worth a try on at least, it looks like it might accommodate all shapes to me. Quite loose and comfy looking Smile

Also, meant to add that next dresses tend to be cut on the bias but then dont hang very well unless you are a slender shape I'm a size 14 and I try them on but never buy them! I feel they suck me in in dress design but never looks good on a real human shape Grin

As a fellow apple I wear shirt dresses but they need to be:
Short or at least well above the knee to show off great legs Smile
Slim ish shift shape so no gathers, under bust seaming or waist ties
narrow sleeved
I will see if I can find some....hold on..

I really like that one too but it's sold out in my size now. I've been deliberating about this for so long.

Sorry - some cross posting there.
Thanks Bill. I'd love to see your suggestions.

Thanks Stereophonic. Interesting about the Next dresses. I have some tops and jeans from there but haven't ever bought a dress.

I think the actual shirt shaped one works well (I'm an apple too) but I don't think that the dropped waist would work so well and I think that the higher waisted ones are terrible on my shape.

But an actual shirt shape, yes, definitely.

Apple shape here and I wear shirt dresses all the time- size 14-16. I think they really flatter my figure but I’m 5 foot 7 so probably taller and one of my best features is my legs

This is lovely, might buy this one myself. It’s poly though which I don’t mind but lots of people hate

Oh dear, have I killed the thread with these offerings? Grin

Not at all Bill. Thanks for looking.
I like that Next one but prefer it in the flowery print. I think I might order it.
I love the Whistles one you linked but out of budget and not in my size, sadly.
I really want a couple of smartish casual dresses so I'm going to keep looking for the perfect one but at least now I know shirt dresses are a possibility.
