Does anyone have the longish one with the fake fur around the hood? It’s £89 reduced to £59 at the mo:

How weatherproof are they, does anyone know?

I gave the light down coats.
They are lovely and warm but useless in a downpour.

Thanks eloise!

Forgive me for being pedantic but do you have the ultra light down or the lightweight down? I was hoping that the one I’d linked to was a bit more waterproof than the shorter ULD ones...

Bought one for my 11 year old. Really good quality. Not sure about how it fares in the rain but don't think it's supposed to be 100% waterproof.

Has anyone washed a Uniqlo down jacket? I have one, which I love, but I'm worried it will never be the same if I wash it.

reallybadidea · 09/12/2017 14:28

I washed mine for the first time last week. Did on the handwash setting in the machine with wool detergent then hung in the airing cupboard to dry. Finished off in the tumble dryer for 10 minutes on cool setting with 4 pairs of balled socks to fluff it up. Came out as good as new. I'd been putting it off because I was worried but getting honey all over it forced my hand. Wish I'd done it before!

Just gave a uniqlo hooded coat as a give to my nephew 2 mos ago.

I washed one of mine. I was really worried and it was quite hard to dry - I kept taking it out of the dryer and pulling the feathers apartBlush
Perhaps if I put a tennis ball in it would have been better.
I have the ultra light down by 4 - black / navy coats and the jacket and gilet. I only washed one.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 11/12/2017 18:03

Hmmm, maybe I will hold off a bit more before washing mine. If I leave it until the sales are on I can replace it if it goes flat!

You can get down jacket wash and proof to make them more waterproof.

Tumble dry with some tennis balls and they come out fine.

I have a light down which is very long. No fur on the hood. It is water repellent to a point. It has to be very heavy rain for a while for it to soak through.

Oddbutnotodd · 11/12/2017 18:24

Not sure about the latest version but mine which has been washed is no longer waterproof. Soaked through yesterday in the snow !

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 11/12/2017 18:34

I once washed a down pillow because someone assured me if I tumble dried it with a tennis ball it would be fine.

It was not fine! A sad sack of clumps is what I ended up with. I no longer believe in tennis balls.

Thanks all!

Just to clarify, the one I’m looking at isn’t ultra light down - it’s billed as “lightweight down” and also mentions that it’s water repellent, although it looks as though the shell is 100% polyester, so how it’s aftually any different to the ULD ones I don’t know...

Water repellant isn't waterproof I think.
