Talk to me about fake tan

Please recommend an instant fake tan - I've never used one before!
How do I stop it going streaky or blotchy?! Is there one that is super easy to use (ie - easy enough for DH to do my back?)
I don't want one that is very dark, just to give a bit of colour and it's just for one particular occasion.
Do I put it on the day of occasion or night before? Will it come off on bedsheets? (I'm staying in a hotel!) do I also put it on my face? Are there any safe for use when breastfeeding??
TIA!

It’ll all depend on which brand you use but I swear by Skinny Tan. No smears, no streaks, no orange hues, never noticed it to come off in the bed (although I do have navy sheets). Unsure if it’s safe for pregnancies but it’s vegan and cruelty free, which is why I bought it initially. They do a variety of types, I’m wearing the 7 day tanner at the moment which I put on last night ready for today (have to leave it at least 5 hours to develop) but they do instant bronzers and ab shaders which do go on on the day I believe. They are quite expensive compared to other brands but they do great sales - I always buy mine when they have the damaged box sale.

Sorry, meant breastfeeding - should have learned to read properly! And yes, easy enough to put on.Smile

Try the Dove body one, I buy it in Tesco, not expensive and never streaks. It's a mix of moisturiser and tan so not too full on but gives a healthy glow.

I use cocoa brown, its a mousse, easy to put on with a mitt, dh does my back, and you can wash off an hour later.

I think it was designed by an Irish woman for pale skin so it's perfect if you want a fairly light tan, you can leave it on longer than an hour for a darker tan.

I love it because I can put it on when the kids go to bed, leave it for a few hours and then wash off before I go to bed, so no orange sheets.

Dove is good, but I would get the darker one, the light tan one doesn't show up much until after a few applications
The Garnier one is good too, and shows up quicker, also a nice colour and doesn't smell as bad as some others and isn't expensive

MissBax · 09/12/2017 10:53

Oooh thanks everyone :) I might try a few out in advance before the event.

Nyancat - would you apply that the night before for the next day? If i showered that morning would it was it all off? How long does it stay on?

Have tried lots and the best is Bondi Sands from Superdrug - the foam one. Put it on with the mitt before you go to bed. Don't worry about streaks/patches - when you shower in the morning you're left with an even tan. Very faint coconut smell. Tan lasts days. Avoid the back of heels, elbows where the skin creases and only lightly on back of knees.

lovemylover · 09/12/2017 14:35

I put mine on after a shower at night, and let it dry .doesn't take long, lasts a long time into a few showers, I renew it about once a week, looks very natural, either Dove or Garnier, but the garnier doesn't smell much

HildaZelda · 09/12/2017 14:38

Spray tan. SO much less hassle.

carolhere · 09/12/2017 14:51

I use St. Moriz 5 in 1 Tanning Mousse and I apply it overnight for the colour to develop and wash it off in the morning. You get a really natural colour.

Nyancat · 09/12/2017 15:23

Yep I put it on the night before and then wash it off before bed, it's just the guide colour that washes off (so you can see where you are putting it on) and then the tan continues to develop. If I wanted to maintain a light tan I'd probably do it once a week, it'd last about 4/5 days on me.

MooChops89 · 09/12/2017 15:34

Another vote for Bondi sands - I have the light one just to make me less translucent 😂 and the dark one if I'm going out. They also do an ultra dark. Most realistic colour and they also do a tan eraser which makes it tons easier to get off!

MissBax · 09/12/2017 16:19

Excellent, thanks all! Think I'll.try bondi Sands and Garnier :)

Wash off tans give a much better colour than fake tans.

Mollypolly2610 · 10/12/2017 00:07

Can you put these on your face? I put on fake tan but want a tan on my face too and nothing seems to work on my face

DianaT1969 · 10/12/2017 12:37

Clarins do drops of fake tan for face that you mix with your moisturiser. I find it good.
