This tunic - frumpy or not?

Just that really. Here:
www.seasaltcornwall.co.uk/clothing/new-arrivals-clothing/calmwater-cotton-tunic-top_leaf_frond_raven.htm

Am a bit ambivalent about Seasalt. Great that they go up to my size and have bought a couple of nice simple summer striped tunics from there. But I find some of their prints a bit too much and frumpy in an 'art teacher' kind of way. No offence to art teachers.

Quite liked look of this one in the 'leaf frond' for everyday casual wear because its colours are subtle and the pattern not OTT. But I may be wrong ...
Views, please.

It's quite nice. Fairly inoffensive. Doesn't make me want to rush to buy it but I prefer a bit more colour.

Mosaic123 · 08/12/2017 17:11

I think it's not great. The neckline is very modest. I like the print.

mrslebon · 08/12/2017 17:12

Hmmm...leaning towards frumpy I'd say. I think the problem with Seasalt is that the pattern/fabric can be fine but the cut can be frumpy. Especially styled with leggings as in the photos.

Kochicoo · 08/12/2017 17:18

I quite like it and I don't usually like Seasalt. I wouldn't buy it cause i feel better in plain rather than patterned but I like the neckline and shape and it's a bit updated from all the dated empire line, low-cut tunic dresses I thought it was going to be before I opened it. I wouldn't call it frumpy but I suppose it would depend on what you wore it with.

papayasareyum · 08/12/2017 17:43

yeah, it’s a bit frumpy. I’ve got rid of most of my tunics except one which I quite like cos it’s a flattering v shape around the boobs and gives me some shape. Mind you, I’m a size 14 and need something to create a silhouette or illusion of shape! I imagine if you’re tall and slim, this tunic would look fab and very unfrumpy

Apileofballyhoo · 08/12/2017 17:45

I like it.

DoubleNegativePanda · 08/12/2017 17:51

Kind of looks to me like a Star Trek uniform with a print. Bit frumpy I suppose, given how high the neck is and how very long it is.

Fekko · 08/12/2017 17:52

I like it!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/12/2017 19:49

I detest the word 'frumpy'. Not a fan of the tunic though, sorry.

Gruach · 08/12/2017 19:52

Not frumpy exactly - just dull, safe, nobody look at me ...

Fekko · 08/12/2017 19:52

I find them comfy especially if they have pockets! I dress like an overgrown schoolgirl though...

BuzzKillington · 08/12/2017 19:54

Frumpsville, yes.

Ragusa · 08/12/2017 19:59

That will not be flattering unless you have no boobs. It's very recognisable of the White Stuff/ Seasalt/ Fat Face genre. I have a lot of their stuff but it's my comfy gear rather than my going outside the house gear.

expatmigrant · 08/12/2017 20:18

Yep

formerbabe · 08/12/2017 20:19

It looks nice on the model, but I can imagine it looking a bit frumpy on an average person.

Candlelight234 · 08/12/2017 20:34

I like it Op, I would prefer some colour but I think it's ok.

confusedandemployed · 08/12/2017 20:36

Not a fan. I have big norks though so automatically discount crew necks.

Bluntness100 · 08/12/2017 20:40

For some reason the paler one reminds me of some form of cleaners uniform. I don’t know why. I must have seen something where housekeeping wore something similar once.

I’d think it was for doing the housework in,

Corcra · 08/12/2017 20:58

Yeah. I'd wear that with leggings, biker boots & a chunky cardigan for a y at home/school runs etc. Looks nice and comfy (nothing wrong with that).

polyhymnia · 08/12/2017 22:43

Thanks for all the comments.

On balance probably confirm my reservations- not keen on boring or 'nobody look at me'! Though equally don't like bright colour in winter, except in small touches.

Incidentally, Remus, do you have a preferred alternative for 'frumpy' - dull, boring, unstylish, etc?

Sadly I don't look like the model - I'm a large hourglass with a very big bust, though I am tall. Because of my height the tunic doesn't look as long on me as on model. And the neck isn't as high without the top the model has on underneath. It's V or scoop, which I usually prefer, but not a crew either.

Agree with poster who didn't like the other colour way - it sums up just what I don't like many Seasalt patterns.

If I did get this version, would wear it with grey skinnies, ankle boots or Converse- alikes, and long plainish silvery necklace. For casual wear only.

Having said all that, still not sure if I should keep it.

Frumpy & seasalt clothes are poor quality and over priced

Alabasterangel6 · 08/12/2017 22:50

I’m have big boobs and am hourglass like you, and I like that tunic but as said above, it’s pointless going for a high neck. So much as though it’s lovely, I wouldn’t.

And there are so many bastarding high necks about - a few years ago the wrap, or part wrap, or V were every bloody where. Now it’s high neck central which just makes me look like a walking rack of tits wherever I go. I’m so frustrated with it. Cleavage is obviously OUT.

On the upside, at least sea salt/white stuff etc all actually photograph these tops on a real person (albeit willowy) so I can see where the neck is supposed to sit. On those flat pics you sometimes can’t get proportions in mind.

But I’ve struggled all this year to find tops with a nice neckline.

ColonelJackONeil · 08/12/2017 22:50

I was reading an article about modest styles being popular with people who are think they are so beautiful they can carry it off. It's the new grundge or something.

RickOShay · 08/12/2017 22:50

It’s quite nice but I think you could do better for your £50 odd quid.

Alabasterangel6 · 08/12/2017 22:56

This is very similar as and I said above,
I think the empire cut and lower neck are much much more flattering on anything over an 8 or boobs.....
