Nylon or Leather Backpack?

I need a backpack for school. I ordered the Tumi Voyager Calais Nylon backpack but found out that there is a leather option.

Is leather a better material for an everyday backpack then nylon? Durability-wise?

I'll use it to carry laptop, notebook, personal stuff.

Nylon is fantastic. Very sturdy, pretty waterproof and dead easy to clean.

I have the Tumi Halle leather backpack which I use for travelling. Everything about it is good quality. The leather is quite soft though so maybe for everyday use the nylon may be more durable. Mine still looks like new but it doesn’t get used everyday.

I don't know about backpacks but I have a couple of nylon cross body bags. I have a dodgy back so, for me, their main advantage over leather is that they weigh a lot less. They're also very hard wearing, the rain just rolls off them and you can stick them in the washing machine. They're not what you'd call lookers but I've grown quite fond of the ugliness and I quite like to wear one with an otherwise smart outfit just to mess things up a bit.

The main disadvantage I've found is that although the bag itself might be indestructable, the zips and fasteners are not.
