Hi, I have booked an appointment with Sam bunting in January. I have been dealing with acne for over 11 years and can not handle it anymore. I am 32 and in a senior position at work and cannot have spots popping up whenever they want. I was just wondering if anyone has been to see her and what their experience was?
Or if there are any other dermatologists you recommend. I should also mention I’m visiting my GP for blood tests in a few weeks and wanted advice as to what to get tested for? I do feel acne is mainly caused by internal deficiencies/inflammations. Thank you!

Re treating acne, it really depends what type you have... it could be as simple as using a product containing salicylic acid. I hope you get it sorted out swiftly!

I went to see Dr Emma Wedgeworth (works with Sam Bunting) she was incredibly nice very sympathetic and paired down my skincare routine massively.

The upside of that is I now don't spend ages with various lotions and potions and my skin looks good. She gave me Duac, Tretinoin a Daily moisturiser I chose Obagi and an spf which is lovely no cast has some great ingredients and feels good on my skin.

Takes a while to see lasting results but I'm so glad I went to see her, I will be going for a follow up shortly.

I also went to see Dr Emma Wedgworth, but for rosacea. Highly recommend

She was very kind, listened enormously to me regarding the impact rosacea was having on me.

She prescribed some treatments and recommended a very basic skin routine. My skin is transformed, and I am now very clear as to what I can and can’t do with regards to products.

I just wish I’d made the appointment way sooner

Thanks for this thread - I've been struggling with my skin for a while (I think I have perioral dermatitis) and in fact tried to make an appointment with Sam Bunting a couple of years ago when I was having a flare up, but didn't manage to and my skin ended up calming down, so I didn't follow it up.

So I shall be following these recommendations with interest!

I have seen Sam Bunting and plan on seeing her colleague Emma instead in future as I don't feel very well supported by my experience with Sam.

I have found that in my experience the practice operates with fairly low standards generally and without transparent pricing when in clinic. You are issued with a list of skincare products on your first appointment which you buy from the clinic but you are not informed in advance the cost of these items so you get a MASSIVE shock when you go to pay (think hundreds of pounds in addition to your consultancy fee) and are then not give an itemised receipt. I had to call to ask what I had paid for and ask twice for an itemised receipt which was emailed to me and was confusingly set out.

Also, little things that I would expect from such an INCREDIBLY expensive practice are lacking such as you are sent word docs with your 'treatment plan' which are riddled with spelling errors. It's really easy to format a pdf from a word doc and to run spell check when you are charging people so much.

Sam undoubtedly looks great for her age (43) but I don't find her easy and she is defensive if you are finding your programme difficult. Mine was painful, (strong reaction to retinoids, lots of peeling) and I found my experience on the whole was really inelegant and not as one would hope from a Harley Street practice.

I would honestly watch some YouTube videos by Gothamista and Liah Yoo, particularly the LY ones about acne.

I've seen some of the Sam Bunting videos and generally like her informative approach, but some products seem harsh.

The Korean skincare philosophy is so much more gentle and nourishing, rather than stripping, "punishing" with strong products. All about feeding the skin with what it needs to balance it and therefore stop excess serum etc.

I know it's not a miracle cure otherwise no-one would ever have acne but definitely worth a look.

The Ordinary also do good products if you don't go mad and slap everything on just because it's cheap. Theres a very supportive FB group - with some Asian/Korean skincare chat in there too.

I have the opposite skin - super dry:dehydrated and eczema prone. Via watching videos and recommendations from fellow users, I'm now using 3 Korean/Japanese products only and my skin is gradually getting softer, more hydrated and really stubborn, red/rough areas are improving a lot!

thank you everyone, I really appreciate the feedback. I actually went to my GP yesterday and got a referral for a derm, so will check with my Bupa and go through the "free" route first and see how it goes! to that end, does anyone have other derm recs?
