I would also like to know this!

dontknowhattodo1234567 · 29/11/2017 21:22

Having the right heels helps a lot! I wear them a lot and never think about how I walk in them but I think if you keep your weight in the front of your foot and expect to walk in a slightly different way to flats you get used to it.

dontknowhattodo1234567 · 29/11/2017 21:23

If they’re too big or small you’ll be uncomfortable. A small platform on the front means you feel less of the ground, some heels have very thin soles.

ferrier · 29/11/2017 21:27

Watching with interest. I seem OK with 9-10cm but over that and my ankles start locking up! Is there no hope?!!

And I always thought the trick was not to put the weight at the front....

StatueInTheSky · 29/11/2017 21:29

do you walk gracefully normally....cos if you can't in flats then heels are not going to help any.

you have to walk as if you were wearing normal shoes...so many people totter or do a weird foot plonking thing

Trying to think of someone who walks nicely in heels... Carrie from SATC maybe....it's been too long since i saw that to remember.

Be slim!

I wore heels almost daily for years until a couple of years ago, when I injured my back and gained almost 20 pounds (Not overweight even now - BMI of 25, though, vs 23 before).

Now I'm heavier, my centre of gravity appears to have shifted and walking in heels is difficult and uncomfortable!

Now I'm finally in less pain and able to get back to the gym, I'm hoping to lose the extra weight and the thought of being able to wear all my lovely shoes again is keeping me motivated Grin

TriHard27 · 29/11/2017 21:31

Point your toes and turn your ankle slightly inwards on the step. Grin

rightknockered · 29/11/2017 22:21

I always walk differently in heels compared to flattish shoes. I also walk differently in flats shoes compared to trainers or sloping about in Uggs.
You just get used to it. Keep your abs engaged, don't slouch, take smaller steps, walk slower, make sure your foot is placed in the shoe correctly and not scrunched into the front - so make sure they fit properly.

SinglePringle · 29/11/2017 22:24

Give in to the sway! They are designed to make your arse wiggle when you walk - accept it! Also, move your centre of gravity back slightly.

I love walking in heels!

Flyinggeese · 29/11/2017 22:32

This isn't helpful but the answer is years of practise!

Failing that, definitely best without tights to avoid slip.

LardLizard · 29/11/2017 22:35

How on earth do you move your center of gravity back ?

OP posts:
ScandiGirl10 · 29/11/2017 22:36

Be confident and take big strides.

NoSquirrels · 29/11/2017 22:37

Wear wedges. This is my solution.

LardLizard · 29/11/2017 22:40

I do have some amazing wedges I love but thay are more causal
I would love some smart wedges
I really would

There are lots of you tube videos that teach you how to walk in heels.

CountFosco · 29/11/2017 23:17

Accept that if, as an adult, you need to learn to walk in shoes that are designed to restrict your movement then maybe the sensible option is to wear flat shoes that you can walk in.

ferrier · 29/11/2017 23:21

Nooo CountFosco - that is so not the answer! This is not about being sensible.

Big strides is surely a no no?
Wedges are easy. It's the stiletto heel that's the problem. And you have to watch where you're walking all the time too - tis a minefield!

Flyinggeese · 29/11/2017 23:22

Honest opinion is definitely no. The sandals are too casual (rope or hessian type material on heel) and for summer. They'd be lovely with a jeans. They're very nice but not right.

The dress is amazing.

Could you manage something with an ankle strap like this? www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/2,37/2448300660
If not, a mid heel?

QuietNinjaTardis · 29/11/2017 23:37

It's all about swinging your hips. One foot in front of the other and swing your hips as you walk. And smaller steps not big ones.

SinglePringle · 29/11/2017 23:45

You move your centre of gravity by sticking your arse out.

misskelly · 30/11/2017 01:04

I would love to know the secret to walking on polished/marble floors, how do you stop yourself sliding around?

ScaryMary81 · 30/11/2017 01:08

Practice!
