Dont know if the link will work. Its a girl dancing impressively in a massive dress, huge heels and on glossy flooring.
That is some talent.

TheDowagerCuntess · 30/11/2017 01:33

Don't wear heels that are too high for you to walk normally in, for a start.

You look far better walking normally and comfortably in mid height heels, than teetering precariously in sky-scrapers.

I walk the same in heels as I do in flats, so heel - toe, heel - toe.

It helps if there is decent grip on the sole where the ball of your foot is, and that the heel isn't too spindly (so that you can confidently do the heel-toe thing).

HuskyMcClusky · 30/11/2017 01:35

I think it’s easier to walk properly in heels if you’re shorter.

I’m nearly 6 foot, with spindly ankles. Heels make my centre of gravity too high. My smaller, curvier friends with muscly legs seem to carry it off beautifully.

That’s my excuse. Wink

Stand up straight, tummy in and and swing hips.

Then I forget and find myself slouching along like a pregnant hippo with sore feet......

0ccamsRazor · 30/11/2017 13:57

My granny taught me to walk in heals by getting me to walk on tiptoe with a book on my head.

She also taught me how to curtsy, get in and out of a car with grace and to sit upright poker straight with knees together. I loved these little lessons of deportment.

Head up, shoulders back, bust out, tummy in, bottom in, toes forward, walk not waddle Grin

I shared her love for old films, beautiful clothes and she would spend time showing me how to apply make up. I used to love watching her get ready for the day.

Mulberrysilk · 30/11/2017 14:13

I've always thought it would be easier if I had bigger feet. The smaller your foot is the higher the angle the heel create.

IHaveBrilloHair · 01/12/2017 12:47

I'm 5 foot with size 3 feet.
It's hard to explain but you just sort of hold yourself differently, head up, shoulders straight, tummy in, smaller but more purposeful steps.
I couldn't wear them for ages after I broke my back but can now again but only for short periods of walking, so nice lunch/dinner out rather than evening dancing or shopping trip.

specialsubject · 01/12/2017 13:19

You can't in staggerers - the foot twisting ones that put you in tiptoe will produce the graceless arse out teeter that shouts fashion victim. Think Megan picking her way on slippery English paths the other day, or the fools that turn up in the last leg in totally dickish shoes. No grace at all.

An inch and a half is the most that can be walked or danced in.

rightknockered · 01/12/2017 15:52

I find 2 - 3 inch heels the most comfortable for all day wear.
When you first put on high heels, you should just stand in them, shift your weight from one foot to the other while standing straight, and you will feel you centre of gravity shift. Now walk holding on to a wall, all in the privacy of your own home ofcourse, not suggesting you walk down the street like this Grin
Wear them around the house to break them in.
Stretch out your feet and calves when you take them off.
You'll get used to them if you take things gradually

hollowtree · 01/12/2017 15:54

I don't. I'm afraid I live in Dr Martens!

brogueish · 01/12/2017 16:00

Lean back, verrrrry slightly.

Greenteandchives · 01/12/2017 16:03

I once walked past a roomful of women having a lesson in how to walk in heels. Really.

Apileofballyhoo · 01/12/2017 16:03

Good heels allow you to carry your weight on the heel - there's a lot in the design of the shoe.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/12/2017 16:10

It's easier to walk in heels which are more closed in or have a strap across the front. I haven't made that sound very attractive have I? I mean like a Mary Jane style rather than a sandal or plain court

BitOutOfPractice · 01/12/2017 16:11

Wear them to the supermarket - you can hang on to the trolley! Grin

RhiannonOHara · 01/12/2017 16:28

Walk in a figure of eight (or, as others have said, let your hips sway even though it may feel weird/different) and keep your legs as straight as possible.
Bare feet are definitely best.
Practise in them in the supermarket by going round with a trolley for support.
I find heeled boots a lot easier than shoes as they support and steady the ankles.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/12/2017 16:41

Or what about something with a block heel to break you in

lynmilne65 · 01/12/2017 19:20

Ihave, how did you break your back ? Sad

IHaveBrilloHair · 02/12/2017 07:52

I have severe osteoporosis and took out a bin, the sheer weight of it broke a bone and the over the next few months more broke until there were 5 bones broken and a 6th damaged.

echt · 02/12/2017 08:08

Here's a high heels walking lesson:

specialsubject · 02/12/2017 09:01

Does no one else think that shoes that need lessons in walking, and work best doing that stupid model stagger, are not fit for purpose?

And they look fugly anyway.

Bratsandtwats · 02/12/2017 10:16

I can't walk in heels at all, but I can walk in platform wedges.

Drinking alcohol helps too Grin

WhooooAmI24601 · 02/12/2017 13:20

I've worn heels for years so am pretty good in them now, but bought some from River Island recently that are tiptoe-sorts and I just have to accept that they're sitting-down-only shoes because they're ridiculous (but too beautiful to return).

If I buy new heels the first thing I do is wear them (with socks, for maximum allure) around the house to hoover and cook in. It helps break them in so when I'm spangled I don't return home with 14 blisters and a shard of glass in my sole.
