Dressing gown alternative?

Closetlibrarian · 25/11/2017 21:50

I'm looking for something to wear instead of a dressing gown when I first get up in the morning. (I hate dressing gowns - all that fabric flapping around!) I have up to now worn an old hoodie, but it's falling apart.
Requirements are that it be snuggly, but not heavy or too bulky, have a hood and pockets. So, some sort of 'lounge hoodie' in a v. soft fabric? Or something like that??

I like old fashioned mens night dresses. Loose fitting, easy to slip on, long sleeves. My current favorites are two pairs flannel numbers from Lee Valley. Good, thick material.

I wear a thick woolly cardigan instead of a dressing gown because I feel the same as you. No hood but I make sure it has pockets.

I wear wear waterfall cardis instead because I get all hot and irritated with dressing gowns.

Next have some fleecy snuggly lounge type tops in their loungewear department online.

A towelling or fleece swim changing thing? Surfer shops, Amazon etc stock them. Have hoods.

BlackPeppercorn · 26/11/2017 09:17

You need a bed jacket.
I have an absolutely plain one, no old lady lace attached, in velour. It just comes down to my hips as I am rather short.

From the Tesco website

Poncho

Funnel neck top

Longline cardigan

There are more but they were the first three on the list.

Try the white company.

Elledorado · 26/11/2017 09:56

Depending on budget, a cashmere hoodie from the white company?

Ooh, there's a nice Gap one - Sherpa lined with a hood:

peppykoala · 26/11/2017 10:13

I love my dressing gowns! But I do also have a cardi with a lined hood which is v similar to the one NoSquirrels has just linked - it's sort of my during the day dressing gown alternative.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 26/11/2017 10:17

I've noticed a lot of the supermarkets are.doing oversized waterfall cardigans in fluffy dressing gown material. I've definetly seen them in Tesco and asda.

CantChoose · 26/11/2017 10:29

I'm currently in my PJs with a crew clothing Sherpa lined hoody which is lovely and cosy, has a hood and pockets. Might not be long enough for you though.
I have asked for that gap one for Christmas though - thanks squirrels

ChishandFips33 · 26/11/2017 11:35

I've noticed lots of soft fleecey jumpers in the pj dept of supermarkets

this was mentioned on another thread , no hood though

Closetlibrarian · 26/11/2017 21:19

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Forgot to mention that it can't be a waterfall/ open front cardigan type thing as that falls into the same 'annoying flappy fabric' category as a dressing gown!

I'd love a cashmere zip up hoodie. Alas a bit out of reach Sad
