Fat and need a dress, HELP!!!!!

Psychobabble123 · 25/11/2017 08:22

I am running out of time and need help please!!!!

I have a formal dinner the week after next so need a dress, but thanks to a combination of being fat and babies I have an awdul stomach area with an awful overhang so it needs to hide this.I have looked everywhere but am stumped.

Has anyone seen anything that could work?? I prefer dark colours to light ones but at this point I'll take what I can get.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give me Smile

Does it have to be a dress? I have all my fat in the middle and I find that dresses show me in my worst light. How about a longer top and a nice skirt or even better some flowing trousers? You can get lovely formal trousers and blouses these days. I hope you have a lovely time when you go out.

I'm just looking on some websites, maybe you could have a dress with a kind of lightweight flowing jacket on top. Anything you particularly like/dislike? Can i ask approximate size?

Is a short dress ok or does it need to be long? A fit and flare shape would work re hiding your stomach: www.dollyanddotty.co.uk/elizabeth-vintage-style-floral-party-dress-in-black-pink-gold (Those are very cheap and cheerful but cotton so maybe not quite dressy enough but you get the idea.)

There are a number in a similar shape in the Phase Eight occasionware bit but for some reason the site isn't working well at the moment): www.phase-eight.com/eu/fcp/product/phase-eight/occasionwear/nanette-jacquard-dress/204356456

trainedopossum · 25/11/2017 08:42

(To clarify I was thinking stomach = abdomen but if stomach = waist those dresses may not work.)

Psychobabble123 · 25/11/2017 08:54

Sorry yes lower abdomen rather than higher is the problem so phase eight are a good choice, thank you!
Short is fine, and i hadn't thought of trousers but it might be ok??

I’m the owner of a similar shape. I find this 1940s shape works will as it flares out from under the bust leaving loads of room round the belly area

Psychobabble123 · 25/11/2017 09:13

Oh thats lovely slug! Thank you!

trainedopossum · 25/11/2017 10:58

Blimey slug that dress is amazing!

Erica891 · 25/11/2017 11:05

I agree with Slug. Go for the 1940s shape styles.

goose1964 · 25/11/2017 11:37

Marks &, Spencer have some nice velvet dresses including one with ruching I've the belly and that's usually a good way of minimising the area

WomblingThree · 25/11/2017 12:02

LindyBop have got a really good Black Friday sale with similar styles to the one slug posted but way cheaper.

graziemille · 25/11/2017 12:35

I got a lovely dark green dress for a party. Very flattering. Good quality. I was a size 18 at the time and not a bulge was in sight.
Really quick delivery and I'm overseas.
The customer service I dealt with were outstanding.
