Decided to get my ears pierced

I'm 45 and I've decided to get my ears pierced. I've always been scared it might hurt. Even though I'm quite good at coping with pain, I've never understood the idea of putting myself through voluntary pain.

There are 2 places in my town that pierce ears. One uses the Inverness system and the other Studex... neither are Claires! Is one better than the other?

Never heard of either of those systems, but it's either needle or gun. All of mine have been done with a gun except for my cartilage ones. It's uncomfortable but it's only like being pinched hard. It's not agony. Apparently taking a couple of painkillers beforehand is helpful.

Op, it doesn’t hurt at all. Good luck. Flowers

Both of those look like gun piercings so I wouldn't recommend either. There must be places near you that will do it with a needle, usually they are tattoo studios.

Ok. That's put me off.... doesn't take much! Is a gun bad?

Do it OP! I've had my lobes and cartilage pierced and I've found all of them completely fine. Flowers

Anywhere that doesn’t use a gun. Only get pierced by a professional piecer using a needle. There is no way to 100% sterilise a gun, and it’s also a lot more damaging to the tissue. Anywhere that uses a gun is the same as Claire’s, whatever they claim!

pigsinmud · 23/11/2017 11:45

Well it'll have to be put on hold. Only one tattoo place in town and they don't do piercings.

I recommend going to a good piercing/tattoo place. It is dangerous to have it done at Claires and a gun shouldn't be used. Piercers at tattoo places are not scary and are used to nervous people and will take the time to speak to you and calm you. They are also immaculately clean.

Claires staff go on a basic course on how to use the gun. I had my nose done by a gun and i was lucky. So I have had gun and needle method.

Also I am scared of needles so if I can do it so can you!

Good luck! Enjoy your new body jewellery!

Do you have a Blue Banana or similar? They do piercings. I had mine done there - original piercings had closed up and I had them done again. Hurt a little but not for long and healed really quickly - that was with a needle.

pigsinmud · 23/11/2017 11:54

No Blue banana. Quite a small town and I don't drive. I'd feel more comfortable in a tattoo place than a beauty one. I think I'd feel intimidated in front of beautician as I'm a no make up, greying hair person!

Have you had a baby ? It’s literally nothing at all. I had mine done at 28 and it’s more of a shock than anything else ! Not as bad as giving blood or an injection . Just get the guns , it’s quick! I recommend a Jewellers though over Claire’s .
