Question about salon hair dye

Went for my usual cut and colour yesterday and my hair seems a much darker tone than usual. I know the hairdresser keeps cards with the numbers of the colours she uses, so would this be because it was put on thicker or left on longer?
It's different, kind of shocks me when I look in the mirror and DD was very forthright about it having changed colour. Usually it looks mid brown with gold/red highlights/tones but this time it's a rich chocolate brown with the gold/red.
Am not sure what to do about it, it's probably not worth discussing a return visit (and what could she do?), I just wanted to know whether people think this is my usual colour but just much richer OR it's a darker on by mistake.
And then embracr the change!

With the brand I use; being left on longer doesn’t alter the colour. Being applied more liberally also would make no difference. It would be my guess if it’s noticeably different that your stylist was missing a shade she wanted and tried to mix up a shade she felt was similar.

That makes sense, thanks. Am slowly getting used to it and have had nice comments.

Was it toner put on after highlights? If so, leaving it on longer than usual can absolutely make the colour darker.
