Dress for funeral

Hi,

I'm attending a funeral in a couple of weeks and don't own anything black. I'd like to buy a dress that's suitable but that I can also wear at a later date as general wear (don't really want to buy just for this).
I'm a 12-14, 5"4. Currently 12 weeks pg but not showing yet. Something looser fitting but smart would be good.

Can anyone help?

Very few people wear black to funerals now. I gave been to three recently. If it’s a very posh do, then maybe, but ordinary folk wear grey, navy, muted burgundy or dark green. Tweedy blends quite popular too. I think it’s a case of wearing the dress again and it not being funereal. Buy black if you wear black but you really can buy anything dark and be suitably dressed. You’ll probably keep your coat on anyway at the service.

Ok. I have a dark blue dress do you think that would be ok?

Yes. From what I have seen, perfect. Just wear a dark coat over and a scarf and you are ready to go. The main thing at funerals is that a lot of people haven’t seen each other for ages and want a chat. They really don’t look at what you are wearing. As long as you are not brightly dressed it’s ok (although some funerals stipulate bright colours!). Hope it’s as stress free as possible.

Agree. Have been to several funerals lately and dark colours were worn, but not that much black. Navy dress with dark coat would have been very acceptable at all.
