Urban Decay - your recommendations please!

I'm updating my make up and recently bought some lipstick which I love from Urban Decay. The salesperson talked me into going back for an appointment next week to try out their face/eye make up products.

Before I go crazy and spend loads on stuff that looks nice on in the shop but is no better than Rimmel in reality please could you give me your recommendations for any UD stuff you like? Smile

I'm 40 with very oily skin so am particularly nervous about changing my current foundation as it does just about keep the shine at bay!!

I’m intrigued, what foundation do you use?

UD eye primer is amazing.
Their mascara is a bit shit.
All nighter setting spray is no better than NYX.
I am a massive UD eyeshadow advocate. The copies don’t come close.
UD lipsticks (as you’ve said) are decent for the money.
Their make up brushes are worth the money especially their chunky foundation brush and eyeshadow blender.
I prefer benefit blusher but UD bronzer is much more natural and lightweight than most on the market.
Their foundation is ok, I alternate between UD, Estée Lauder and rimmel. I too have really oily skin and none of these are any better or worse than another.

I’ve spent far too much money on ‘high end’ make up so feel free to ask if I’ve missed anything you’re interested in.

Thank you dressinblack that's all very helpful!

It sounds like the UD eyeshadow and brushes would be the thing to go for. My stuff is mostly cheap apart from a Bare Minerals eyeshadow which usually ends up flaking all down my face!

Have you tried their bases or face primer?

I use Rimmel stay matte foundation which does usually stay on my face all day but I've got reddened skin from all my years of acne scarring (nice!) so would be great to cover that up a bit!

Get a Naked palette if you like neutral looks! Can do some lovely looks and the quality is phenomenal (which it wants to be for the price). The eyeshadow primed is next to none. Their eye pencils are lovely and buttery. Skip the glitter eyeliners and the eyebrow box and white blotting powder, they're nothing special for the price

PNGirl · 20/11/2017 18:25

I recommend their eyeshadow and Primer Potion but I would avoid the mascara.

You can't really go wrong with a Naked Pallette.

domesticslattern · 20/11/2017 18:26

Naked palettes are on discount in John Lewis today.
As is lots of beauty stuff incidentally.

dressinblack · 20/11/2017 18:27

Their primer is horrendous actually. I found either bare minerals or soap and glory primer to be best.

dressinblack · 20/11/2017 18:28

Face primer that is...I will reiterate, their eye potion primer is fantastic!

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 20/11/2017 18:31

I used to love urban decay eyeliner it glides on it's so smooth.

As for the eyeshadow I can say hand on heart that the w7 dupes are as good as urban decay. I have the naked2 urban decay pallete and recently bought the w7 in the buff pallete and the colours are almost identical and just as pigmented and last just as long... and cost only £5 from b&m. It's one of the only times I've ever been convinced by a dupe. They have dupes for pretty much all the urban decay palletes and are a cruelty free brand too.

I actually love the perversion mascara, it’s quite ‘wet’ but I like that as it goes on really easily and is buildable. Naked 3 is also my fave palette, I use it pretty much every day and I have all of the palettes

roobrr · 20/11/2017 18:34

LOVE their setting spray. The naked pallets are fab, I use mine daily (particularly number 3) and I also love their heavy metal liquid eyeliners. They are gorgeous and really lovely to thinly line over the top of black!

Butterfly1975 · 20/11/2017 18:50

Thanks all and especially for the tip off about the JL price match! I have just ordered the palette online Smile

I might get a few brushes when I go for the appointment then they can show me how to use them properly!!

There’s a palette, which I think is called naked ultimate matte basics, which is brilliant and buildable. As it’s all matte it’s very flattering on oily skin

KenDoddsDadsDog · 20/11/2017 20:02

Eye Primer Potion is superb , best in the market
Fixer sprays also great

HandbagFan · 20/11/2017 20:14

Love their 24/7 eyeliners. Soft and easy to apply, and actually do last all day.

Oliack1417 · 20/11/2017 20:16

The eye shadow primer is amazing

CantSleepClownsWillEatMe · 20/11/2017 20:29

Yes to the primer and eyeshadows, both really good but then so they ought to be for the price!

Just to say Op if you're considering buying foundation after they've done your face, wait for about an hour and check it in natural light. I found it all looked amazing when she'd finished with me but I was determined to see how it looked after 45 mins or so. I'm glad I did because in natural light it was just too much on the yellow side and had I purchased there and then it would have been yet another 40 odd euro foundation languishing in a drawer .

BigStripeyBastard · 20/11/2017 20:39

I echo the Eye Primer Potion, the original in the pale purple tube. I currently have the anti aging one but, while good, is not as good as the original.
All the eyeshadows are generally excellent, good pigment and very blendable.
Currently using the Naked Skin Foundation Light, very good, stays put without caking and light to medium coverage. I put it on with their foundation brush, the stubbier or the two. Excellent brush, very soft, buffs it in a treat and doesnt soak up much product at all.
They used to do concealer pencils, I still have one in DEA, but I think they have been discontinued.

BluebellGal · 20/11/2017 21:39

My favourite repeat purchase UD products are:

Eye primer potion in sin
Naked 2 eyeshadow palette
Naked skin one and done tinted moisturiser (great coverage)

Mammatron · 20/11/2017 21:48

I prefer their setting spray to the NYX one, NYX makes my makeup run!

Dustbunny1900 · 20/11/2017 22:05

Their mascara (perversion or something?) is really good if you like very strong looking lashes, really lengthened and thickened. i liked the “on purpose” clumpy lashes awhile back so I loved it.

Naked 3 is my jam.

Midnight cowboy eyeshadow is great as all purpose highlighter
