Skincare for children?

I can't quite believe I'm asking this, but would appreciate any advice on skincare for my kids.

The eldest is 12, and I wonder if this is an appropriate time to start a very basic skincare regime - or would you leave it later? She's started getting the odd spot, and I was thinking a very gentle facewash and maybe a day lotion with SPF for summer. Any recommendations?

The younger one is 8 and I feel odd for even asking, but she is going through puberty [excuse me while I sob quietly], complete with congested skin and BO. She has quite a lot of small spots on her forehead, and I know she is very self conscious about this and the other outward changes.

What do you think? Let them navigate their own way through the world of Clearasil and Astral, like we had to, or offer help? And does anyone have any recommendations?

For my eldest boy when he turned 12 I gave him a Simple face wash. Pump action thing and he can use it in the shower. And a Simple moisturizer. He can use one of mine moisturizers if he wants.
He uses an Aveeno moisturizer for his body if needed (lot of outdoor sports in the cold).

If you google or YouTube dr Sam bunting, she's done a few bits on teen skin

Basic routine here. The cleanser isn't always the cheapest so look at soap and glory peaches and clean or la Roche posay toleriane dermo cleanser (cheaper on easy para pharmacie website)
Stridex pads only on spotty bits

My oldest two (13 and 11) use the nip + fab teen skin range which seems to be working well and is often half price in Superdrug

Wow, what great and speedy advice! Huge thanks everyone, I'm going to follow up all your recommendations.

Only wash face at night. Just a splash of water in the morning followed by spf. Can't go wrong with that at any age. Focus on diet, fresh vegetables and non blocked bowel is key to clear skin, especially when teenage hormones get going
