Clothes/shoes bag budget 2017

The blog thread has led me to question my spending.

I've just added up my (what I can remember) purchases for the year.
Although, I didn't buy excessive amount of clothes I did purchase 2 Mulberry bags (small clifton and a zipped bayswater), a Chloe mini marcie, a Coach saddle bag plus a less expensive Cath Kidston and Kate Spade (but still...).
I'm feeling a bit ashamed (although DH says I shouldn't).

Anyway, my total spend was around £4k (of which more than half was on bags). I'm reigning myself in and only buying essentials in 2018.

It helps to have a set amount of spending money - that way you can prioritise the stuff you want and not feel guilty about spending too much.
Having said that, 6 bags in a year seems like a lot and probably not enough opportunities to wear all your bags regularly.

What are you doing with the bags you replaced with these? If you’re selling them then you’re making back some of the money you spent.

I know, I feel bad about the 6 bags, I normally buy one 'good' bag annually. A hefty part of the spend was a Mulberry and a Gucci scarf which DH encouraged me to get for passing some really difficult exams. The Chloe, I had half the money from Christmas. The Coach bag was also part birthday money...

I think for next year, I am going to write down everything I spend on clothes, bags & beauty products and set myself a budget of £200 a month max. I don't want to be reckless with money and also don't want to be be too materialistic.
Re old bags, I gave one to my niece, 1 to my BF and the others to the charity shop.

This guilty feeling will I hope, make my spending much more wise.

I've written down my spends for the year. I reckon it'll come to about 1.6k and that includes a Burberry coat.

I think sometimes you do have to think about the number of opportunities to wear stuff. I do have 2 Mulberry bags but have had them since 2013! This year I bought a Coach bag in the Jan sales for £125, a Cambridge Satchel bag for £85, a Longchamp Le Pliage for £50 for a specific trip and a Fossil bag last week for £50. However I also sold 3 Radley bags on Ebay and donated a further 5 or so because it is a bit ridiculous to have enough bags to be able to have a different one on rotation every month. I can't be bothered swapping out more than monthly so some had to go.

Same with things like leather jackets. There isn't enough "mild" winter to wear multiples so I sold one this year leaving me with 2.
