How Many Bras Is Enough?

MohoBoho · 18/11/2017 11:10

How many bras do you have - how often do you wash then and do you do it by hand? Sick of my bras going that dingy grey colour and investing in some nude ones, but not sure how many to buy - I’ve got gazillions of grey ones!

I usually have two. But as they cost £28 that’s all I can reasonably afford. They get replaced every 3/4 months as they’re used daily (obviously).
If I had normal bras from a shop for £8-10 I’d have 4/5 I reckon.

dementedpixie · 18/11/2017 11:16

I've got loads but then I often get some for Christmas and then don't throw the old ones away! I like nude ones and they are great under white tops. I think i have 5 nude ones, a couple of white and a few black ones too. I then have sports bras in nude, black and white

dementedpixie · 18/11/2017 11:18

And all of mine are much older than 3/4 months. What a waste to replace that often. I wash in the machine with other clothes but put in a mesh laundry bag to protect the machine

dementedpixie · 18/11/2017 11:18

Also i wear them 2 or 3 days before washing. I sniff test them first

RoganJosh · 18/11/2017 11:20

I have loads, but two black and one nude that I wear 99% of the time.

I was them embarrassingly little and put them in the washing machine.

Notreallyarsed · 18/11/2017 11:21

I’ve got 6, 3 nude, 3 black, all tshirt bras. I delicate wash them in the washing machine, I’ve neither the time nor the patience to do it by hand.

Migraleve · 18/11/2017 11:24

I have over 20 bras. I love them! They all get washed with the regular washing at 40 degrees then I leave them on the radiator (even in summer when it's off) to dry

Migraleve · 18/11/2017 11:24

And I wear clean every day, just as I d the rest of my clothes.

Yuk at not washing bras

Floralnomad · 18/11/2017 11:27

I’ve got about 10 but generally wear the same 4 sloggi ones , 2 black ,2 white . They go in with any 40 wash and hang on the end of a radiator to dry . Washed after each wear like pants .

dementedpixie · 18/11/2017 11:29

I used to just wear bras once but after a thread on here decided to sniff test and found they are ok for 2 or 3 wears. Some days they are only on for half the day as I'll be at a gym class and I'll use a sports bra for that. I also rewear jeans and cardigans. Everything else gets just 1 wear

PickAChew · 18/11/2017 11:34

About 8 that I regularly wear. Wear them for about 2 days. Machine wash on delicate setting and have never had a disaster. I'll wash dark bras together one week and light bras the next. Usually use ecover delicates to preserve the lycra but they occasionally benefit from something biological once they get a bit older.

Foodylicious · 18/11/2017 11:35

Hundreds!
But only two that fit really well, a few that fit ok or are strapless etc.
Lots that I just need to throw away/donate.
Can anyone remember which shops take bra donations specifically?
Wear from 1-3 days at a time Shock
Have recently lost weight so once happy I am staying at the same size I will get a few more and wash/wear daily.
They are just not cheap!.

Branleuse · 18/11/2017 12:02

I have far too many, but i only have a few that I wear really. I go through phases with which are my favourites. I like the thin unpadded ones for the summer and look better under summer dresses, and now im on padded ones for the winter as they keep me warmer.

MohoBoho · 18/11/2017 12:22

Does everyone’s white bras go that dingy grey colour, or is it just me?? I have tried washing by hand to try and stop this (don’t know why it should) but generally can’t be bothered. I think nude and black is the way to go, Triumph Soft Sensation non wired for me, but only an A cup.

Migraleve · 18/11/2017 16:11

Mine don’t go grey. They get washed regularly in with the white shirts

KatharinaRosalie · 18/11/2017 16:14

Loads. Not a single white one though, haven't seen the need. They all go in the washing machine in net bag and delicate cycle.

PurplePumpkinHead · 18/11/2017 16:15

I have about 12, all in sets with matching knickers. I don't have any white, nude or black sets. They get worn once then in the machine with the regular washing Smile

BubblyCat · 18/11/2017 16:15

If you’re using something that claims to make your laundry whiter or brighter, check it doesn’t contain any dye! Some products have a blue grey dye in them to make white clothes less yellow. I don’t know why, but the dye seems to affect bras more than other things, turning them grey 😶 worth a check?

KatharinaRosalie · 18/11/2017 16:16

Oh and you might want to check out the Bra Interventions thread. Almost nobody is actually an A cup once properly fitted.

KatharinaRosalie · 18/11/2017 16:18

White synthetic bras are dyed white, so all those whitening powders that work on cotton won't work on bras. The white dye just wears off, that's why they change colour.

ferrier · 18/11/2017 16:18

I have over 20. I usually wear them for 2/3 days so they all have 3 matching knickers. Only 1 white. And strapless/fancy strap ones are nude. All the rest are colours and they go in the wash with the jeans and get dried on a rack.
