New York sales next week really should I bother?

Appart from Levi’s which are always cheaper. The rate is so bad should I waste my time fighting through the shops or do something more cultural like visit a museum? It’s my fourth time does anyone know what the Xmas markets are like?

Oh the lack of response must really mean don’t bother. Times have changed so
Much.

The US does some serious loss leaders to get people in the doors for Black Friday but really it may not be stuff you want! I think it's rare to get stores doing blanket discounts on everything now so it's just stuff they want rid of.

loveka · 18/11/2017 23:39

Go to the Tenement Museum. It's fab.

Jinglebellhell17 · 18/11/2017 23:41

Most clothes are still cheaper in the US especially if you like brands like Banana Repupblic Etc. If you need an Apple anything I’d buy it in the US as it’s still cheaper and they are hedging on the pound dropping even further so prices in the U.K. have been put up. The US doesn’t really do Christmas markets in the way Europe does and none I’ve ever been to can hold a candle to the German ones. Go see the Macy’s day’s parade or the tree lighting in Rockafella Center?

EachandEveryone · 18/11/2017 23:57

I can’t get excited by the parade as I went to the Halloween one last time and it was so crowded and cold we couldn’t see a thing. So we are thinking of doing a waking tour of Soho and Little Italy that morning.

Do you think J Crew will
Have sales?

The big clothing sales in the US tend to be after Christmas but you should get some stuff on Black Friday in the likes of JCrew. I’d sign up to their US email and that will probably tell you what’s on. The Halllween parade is nothing like Macy’s. You’d have to be blind to not be able to see. They are huge inflated floats (think bigger than busses above your head). Santa ends the parade and bang it’s Christmas time! It will most likely be cold as a witches tit though.

The forecast doesn’t look bad for next week abit like here

Sephora does great deals on Black Friday, like mini sets of makeup for $10. Great for presents or travel.

EachandEveryone · 19/11/2017 14:09

Just on that day or diesit extend?

I expect most of it sells on the day. You can always order online and get it delivered to where you're staying if you can't face the crowds.

I'm usually in the US for Thanksgiving and at the small local mall on Black Friday, deals are usually things like 40% of everything at Abercrombie and Fitch until 12.00, all day at Gap I think. Department stores have 'doorbuster' offers, got some great cashmere and cosmetics deals.

EachandEveryone · 22/11/2017 00:17

The answer is no. Even Old Navy with 40percent off everything is twice as expensive as I remember it. The Levi’s are £40 so
Much cheaper but not very inspiring.

mumisnotmyname · 22/11/2017 03:11

The drop in the pound means that things are a lot more expensive than they once were, sale or no sale. However gap amongst others has been sending me emails about 50 percent off.

EachandEveryone · 22/11/2017 11:22

I don’t like the gap. Old Navy was a huge disappointment. Anyway I’m off to New York.

J Crew always seems to have offers on so it would be worth checking them out. Anthropologie for home wear is great if you like the style. There is an Anthropologie and J Crew in the Rockefeller Centre. For museums, I recommend MOMA and The MET.

EachandEveryone · 28/11/2017 09:49

Nothing to write home about except the children’s Ralph Lauren shop by Central Park was a gem 40% off and another 30 at the til. Really lovely things I got for £42. I spent loads in Sephora on Xmas presents. The drugstores were disappointing.

Oh, Sephora.
