Henna hair dye tips?

I'm currently pregnant and my hair hasn't been the same since I had DS - now that I'm pregnant it seems to have gotten worse - fluffy, knotty, generally unmanageable - and I'm a bit fed up of it, so I've decided to have a go at a different colour. I'm not willing to go for a 'standard' hair dye because of the chemicals.

I'm thinking of going for either Surya Brasil or Henne Color cream as I find the thought of a powder or block a little intimidating for the first time.

I did a semi-permanent red dye when I was a teenager (and horrified my mother! Grin) but have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to colouring my hair - especially with henna.

Does anyone have any tips for using henna hair dye?

There is no need at all to worry about commercial hair dye in pregnancy.

Having said that, I love henna.
Have always used Lush Henna as its easy to use, has several colours AND unlike skin-quality true henna does fade with time, so you are not committed until it totally grows out.

Most hairdressers will not dye over henna without dire warnings of what might happen.

Oh, and do a patch test with whatever henna product you end up choosing - it can cause quite a horrible contact dermatitis is susceptible people.

I also use Lush henna! It's not tricky to use at all, though it can be very messy. I sit in the bath and apply mine, then use the shower (which is over the bath) to clean myself, the bath, and the bowl.

Thanks both. It says to apply to clean dry hair - did you wash your hair and dry it just before applying or can hair washed in the morning be dyed that evening?
How did you apply it? From the top of the head, coiling each strand on top of the head or head upside down over the bath?

I just bung it on when my hair is due a wash, leave on for however long I can manage, then wash it Grin
