A lovely friend has offered to let me use her staff discount to treat myself. Give me your recommendations - bear in mind that I love a gift set.

Brands include:
Tom ford
Jo Malone
Clinique
Bobbi brown
Smashbox
Mac
By terry
Aveda
Bumble and bumble
Darphin
Of course Estée Lauder..

What do I want?!

Estée Lauder pure color envy lipsticks and eyeshadow palettes are wonderful.great quality, pigmented, last forever, and the double wear foundation are outstanding . love EL, I’m quite new to estée as I thought they were bit grannyish. But sali Hughes did a review of their lipstick and I was sooo impressed

Tom ford I’ve never used

Jo Malone fab candles and unusual perfumes . Really luxurious

Clinique skin care, reliable and works eg 3 step and moisture sure ranges

Bobbi Brown really fab for polished not too much look. Good quality

Smash box, used to be good now a bit meh not v original and IMO overpriced

Mac contemporary shades, some classics like ruby woo red lippy and great foundations huge shade range

By terry meh over rated no better than Rommel.sold in pricy shops with pricy tag

Aveda, amazing hair ranges, totally worth the price tag esp hydration range

Bumble and bumble meh one it two good products eg hairdresser oil, otherwise no better than Aussie miracle range

Darphin never heard of this brand

RJnomore1 · 15/11/2017 20:31

Ooh see I've never used Estée Lauder itself either as I thought it was a bit older lady. Will have a good browse...

Estée Lauder skin care is fantastic. I keep trying other things but going back to it, in particular the multi action cleanser you can also us as a face mask.

Bobbi Brown is my favourite make up brand full stop.

RJnomore1 · 15/11/2017 20:35

I've never used Bobbi brown either. I'm a bit of a Clinique fan but I'd like to try new stuff.

I know, I always thought Estée Lauder was a granny brand.but they’re really good, I’m new to EL. The website has vouchers you can show at counter for foundation samples

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 15/11/2017 20:40

Bobbi Brown is great if you're not too much slap kinda gal.less is more
The BB palettes are really flattering
Clinique lash power mascara is great too

theaveragewife · 15/11/2017 20:41

EL have a stake in all Deciem brands now, does the discount cover those? NIOD & The Ordinary are fantastic skincare.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 15/11/2017 20:41

EL skincare is lovely and so are their "classic" perfumes. Clinique skincare is quite harsh (originally marketed at 'problem' skin) Darphin is lovely too, very similar to Decleor. Wouldn't bother with either JM or TF as even at 60% off they are still IMO overpriced, especially JM.
What a lovely friend though!

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 15/11/2017 20:42

The ordinary are so inexpensive it’s not worth getting 60% off
I’d blow a 60% discount on a high end brand

Pomegranatepompom · 15/11/2017 20:43

Aveda - damage remedy conditioner.
Jo Malone - the mixing set (about 6 fragrances in a gift box)
Mac - Eyeshadows - great range of colours and long lasting.

RJnomore1 · 15/11/2017 20:45

I didn't see the ordinary in the list so I suspect no to deciem.

I'm going to get a ruby woo lipstick. Heard so so much about it.

Bobby brown palette too I think.

Will have a look at darphin. It also includes creme de la mer but even discounted I'm not paying for that!

theaveragewife · 15/11/2017 20:46

Yes, that's true!

RiskIt4Biscuit · 15/11/2017 20:50

Tom ford - lipsticks and perfumes. I've found the darker ones to be a bit patchy/uneven, but there are some very nice colours. Black Orchid perfume if you're into it. The double ended eyeliner is supposed to be really good.

Jo Malone - Perfumes - I quite like the Basil and Neroli and Sea salt and Wood Sage perfumes, but I wouldn't pay full price for any of them. I find the liquid hand soaps overpriced. I'm not into candles.

Clinique - I like some of their moisturisers. The tubing mascaras are great. Their Pop lipsticks are great.

Bobbi brown - I like their Pot Rouge (cream blusher).

Smashbox - Primers. Audacious lipsticks are supposed to be amazing.

Mac - most of their products are great, but lipsticks, lip liners, eyeshadows and Paint Pots (cream eyeshadows) stand out to me.

By terry - I've only tried their baume rose and it's underwhelming. The eye shadow sticks are supposed to be nice.

Aveda - Hand cream is all I have tried from this brand, and it's underwhelming.

Bumble and bumble - I love the pret-a-powder dry shampoo/volume powder.

Darphin - Hand cream is lovely, but I don't know if I would buy it again.

Estée Lauder - Double Wear Light foundation, Double Wear mascara (tubing mascara), Advanced Night Repair, Pure Color Envy lipsticks (there's a giftset with 4 red/berry colours and a mirror for 30-something quid).

RJnomore1 · 15/11/2017 22:43

Ok I want everything!

Think I've decided on:

Mac ruby woo
Origins best of ginger
Estée Lauder evening bag collection
Bobbi brown caviar and rubies

I've got quite a bit of skincare at present I'd like some makeup. The evening bag seems a good way to try a variety of Estée Lauder.

Btw I've been using advanced night repair, I'm really rating it.

If you can get Mac Christmas sets, they have a set of mini lipsticks in their most popular shades review here

PetiteMarseillaise · 16/11/2017 00:38

If it were me, I'd also stock up on some MAC or BB make-up brushes, good quality and last for a long time if you take care of them.

I'm also a big fan of BB gel eyeliners (in the pot) and foundations.

Mrs9C · 16/11/2017 11:07

Ooh what a lovely offer! Lucky you!

What I have and love and repurchase of these brands:

Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation, and the double wear light (is that the right name? For the days I don't want such a heavy coverage).

Also their sumptuous extreme mascara, love it.

Bobbi Brown graphite shimmer eyeliner gel, comes in a small pot that lasts forever, you need your own brush, or like I use an old eye liner, for application.

Mac, lip liners, 60% off these will make them an excellent price. Also their lipsticks, should get them for a very good price too. I prefer the non matt ones.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 16/11/2017 20:01

You’ve made lovely choices,Do report back.
I’m keen to hear about the origins ginger

MayFayner · 16/11/2017 21:41

EL Double wear mascara for sure.

And Night Repair too.

Ofgreetingsandgoodbyes · 17/11/2017 10:07

Ester Lauder Sumptuous Extreme mascara is AMAZING isn't it mrsrc! You should definitely consider it OP.

Fucky · 17/11/2017 10:09

I love Estée Lauder daywear tinted moisturiser

Only1scoop · 17/11/2017 10:13
