Long vests for jeans/loose tops

Munxx · 08/11/2017 14:51

Hi there

I have resorted to wearing an old nursing vest as a layer with my jeggings. I need vest tops that go over my bum and form a neat line for wearing a slightly looser top over- I find this very slimming for my spreading figure! I am not pregnant just eating too much cake. I had thought of maternity vests as they tend to be longer but they have a lot of rucking/rushing on them.

Hope someone can help! Online would be a bonus as it is tricky to get out into town.

Many thanks.

M&S. I'm 5'9" with a long torso and they're just right.

HeyMicky · 08/11/2017 14:58

Primark do “cami dresses” which are vests that hit below the arse

CMOTDibbler · 08/11/2017 14:59

Not online, but the Primark cami dress things are perfect for this

BeachysFlipFlops · 08/11/2017 15:03

The h and m basic ones are pretty long

katmarie · 08/11/2017 15:10

Matalan do some fab longline vests. I’m wearing them as maternity vests at the moment and they come down over my bum and hips, I’m 5ft 3 and 30 weeks, with a good size bump, if that helps give you an idea of how long they are.

franktheskank · 08/11/2017 15:11

I don’t want to sound mean but I see that look every now and again and it looks so frumpy Blushit does t really look good on anyone bit I can see why you would do it when bfing, although mine always went over the top of my top instead of under .

if your not pregnant and just put a bit of weight in then why don’t you find something a bit more flattering?

What shape are you?

0utForAWalkBitch · 08/11/2017 15:13

I wear that style a lot too since having kids.

H&M basics are good. Hush too. No difference I can see in the quality of the vests but the Hush straps are thicker and cover my industrial strength bra straps if it's a looser slip off the shoulder number.

Juancornetto · 08/11/2017 15:15

I get Gap tops in tall for this, they're a good length and also lovely and soft

RicottaPancakes · 08/11/2017 15:16

M and S do some extra long ones. £4 I think

endofacentury · 08/11/2017 15:19

I’m tall 5’10 l, long torso Apple shape 🙄 and have to do this with all tops as they just don’t cover my tummy otherwise. I get longline vest tops from next, I think they are £6 each, perfect for wearing tops or cardis over and good quality

missmartha · 08/11/2017 15:21

M&S, loads of colours, £4 each or usually 2 for £6.50 and they wear and wear and don't go baggy.

Ollivander84 · 08/11/2017 15:23

I don't think it looks frumpy. I have to layer most tops as I'm tall! This is a topshop one (the blue layer) and I would say matalan ones are a similar length. Sainsbury's also did some a while ago
Edit - too many images so can't post pic

mimiasovitch · 08/11/2017 15:31

Matalan - £4.00, neutral colours, wash brilliantly, though I do tend to replace the white ones each year. I wear them under sweaters, for yoga and to bed, and they just keep on going!

It’s this one, other colours available too. I’ve just seen a burgundy one so I’m planning to get that now.

notanotherlasagne · 08/11/2017 15:31

Tu do some really long vests, nice quality too. Definitely not grumpy IMO

SoftBlocks · 08/11/2017 15:34

Long Tall Sally do multi buys for basic tops. Hush are good too.

Highlove · 08/11/2017 15:46

Strongly disagree this looks frumpy. I think it’s a good look. I think what can look frumpy is a top that’s not quite long enough so sits at the waistband* without a longline vest.

*Except on skinny young hipsters when it’s obviousky cool. On the rest of us less skinny, less young types, it just looks dated.

MrsLogicFromViz · 08/11/2017 15:52

I'm 5ft 9in, size 16-18 and love a long vest layer as tops just aren't long enough. It doesn't look frumpy IMHO. I bought mine from H&M, but they are no longer on the website Confused

Girlwiththearabstrap · 08/11/2017 17:00

I get mine from H&M. They wash and last fairly well I think. I also don't think it looks frumpy! I find it quite flattering around the waist/hips.

trainedopossum · 08/11/2017 17:38

I like BAM vest tops. They're a little ruched so you don't have the fabric stretched tight over your hips. bambooclothing.co.uk/shop/womens-bamboo-sunrise-vest-white/

Munxx · 08/11/2017 18:10

Thanks to all! Yes I too am tall so I need something to just help with coverage. I have a lot of beautiful tops that just need a little something underneath them and I find that streamlining helps.

I appreciate that everybody has differing opinions on what is current but I must confess that I just wear what I feel suits me, and well I feel that this does!

Lots of options for me to try. Next job is some decent jeggings with a good high waist for a blobby tummy size 12/14 ;)

I do this too, I don’t think it looks frumpy at all. Worse is a jelly belly/arse crack hanging out!
I find the Primark cami vests, h and m long line and new look long line are perfect for this.

MrsPeacockDidIt · 08/11/2017 19:19

I do this too. I really like the hush ones (size down though) and esprit do some nice ones too. At 5’2 the next ones are too long for me and the primary cami ones are too. I have some from H&M that are ok.

cannaethink · 08/11/2017 20:25

I like these from next, though I had to massively size down. I'm normally a 10/12 but I've got these in a 6! I struggled to get navy vests so was delighted to find these!
I also like the matalan ones.

PETRONELLAS · 08/11/2017 20:29

I’ve got the Next ones. They do go baggy after one wear though. Tesco do good seamfree shorter ones if anyone’s looking!

franktheskank · 09/11/2017 09:18

I think they look grumpy because i think it looks so obvious why someone’s trying to do , it’s like saying “I have a wobbly belly so I have to cover it with a long vest” lol

Could just wear longer tops or a dress?
