I'm planning on getting a Cambridge satchel - I am changing career and need a briefcase type bag. I'm really chuffed to have cracked it and got a job in my new career, so the bag is a sort of present to myself. I originally trained in Cambridge- which is why I want a Cambridge one rather than any of the others.

So, my question is- is having your initials embossed on it naff? I can't decide! And I'm going to buy it tomorrow.

I had my initials embossed! Not coloured though. The embossing is very subtle.

AnonEvent · 08/11/2017 11:48

I have my (old) initials on mine, and I've never regretted it. I chose to have no colour in the embossing (I think they offered gold, silver and black at the time).

Yes, the embossing is subtle and, if you have it in the centre of the front flap, sits under your arm most of the time. I have used mine every day for work for years - it still looks great and is often complimented.

I got blind embossing! Really nice and subtle. Obviously means no resale though if you want a change in a few years.

Mrsmaudwatts · 08/11/2017 12:32

Thanks, I think I'll go for it then. I was thinking of just the plain embossing so it's not too obvious.

What colour do you all have?

Still undecided, can't wait to actually buy i!

Well done on your new job OP, and I'm so envious of you buying a Cambridge satchel! Enjoy.

dinosaursandtea · 08/11/2017 12:43

Do it! I have an oxblood red one and keep meaning to get my initials on it. I had plain embossing on my brown one and it looked really nice.

DancingHouse · 08/11/2017 12:45

Looks good but it won't have much of a resale value if you ever wanted to.

Jedbartletforpresident · 08/11/2017 12:50

I have the 13" in French Grey and I absolutely love it. People always comment on it - not just on the satchel but on the colour too which is gorgeous

AnonEvent · 08/11/2017 12:56

I have the 13" in the egg yolk yellow (not its official name) - I wear it with a navy wool coat to tone it down a bit.

Mrsmaudwatts · 08/11/2017 12:56

Thanks! I had almost given up on finding a job (after spending £££ and years re-training) and then out of the blue, the perfect job came up! In the perfect location. So, It's very deserving of a beautiful bag I think.

Bit awkward as I was so sure I would never actually make it, I took a new job in my old career a week before I saw this one. Funny how these things turn out...!

Instead of my initials, I might actually have the work "finally" 😂

Congratulations on the job and enjoy your satchel :)

Mine's bright purple. It still looks spanking after 4 years of heavy use. Reminds me, I must get the Collonil out and give it a bit of a treatment.
