Please help me find an outfit

I am attending a wedding of a close family member just before Christmas and struggling to find an outfit. The venue is very grand/period.

I am ideally looking for a dress with sleeves (as I feel the cold, can be short sleeve or long sleeve and knee length (don't suit midi as I'm 5ft 3 so they make me look frumpy).

I'm a size 10/12 apple with a fat belly and smallish boobs so I don't suit wrap or bodycon style dresses.

I'm really drawn to velvet dresses but have tried loads on and the only ones that suit aren't dressy enough for a wedding. Preferably don't want black. I'm pale/blonde and suit jewel colours e.g. burgundy/green/blue.

Budget is £200 max. Any help gratefully received!

Right colour, petite sizing, has sleeves, possibly too fitted

Thanks for your help @Mulberrysilk, I've actually tried the Boden dress on and it didn't really suit me (showed off my tummy and the next didn't sit right). I'm not a fan of cold shoulders as I'm always freezing and need something covering my shoulders.

Ted Baker maroon velvet?
velvet dress

GwenStaceyRocks · 03/11/2017 13:31

I like this and think the ruching and pattern would be flattering but it doesn't have sleeves so would need some kind of shrug.
sleeveless velvet

Or this ?
velvet with lace sleeves

OP no help on the dress front but have you tried wearing spanx underneath. As someone who is also constantly freezing I find it not only smooths out the lumps and bumps but also keeps me toasty warm.

What about this one?

figgyroo · 03/11/2017 14:22

Thanks @GwenStaceyRocks, I'd seen that Ted Baker one online but wasn't sure about the lace as had visions of my belly fat poking through. I might go and try it on as I don't live far from a Ted Baker shop.

I like the colours on the 2nd one, but really don't want sleeveless and I'm not keen on the style of the 3rd one.

Thanks for your help

@mrsvilliers2 never tried spanx but willing to try anything to keep me warm (and and make me look a bit slimmer). Thanks for the tip.

@Monzeitia love the colour of that one but hate anything that ties at my waist as it does nothing for me (my waist is barely smaller than my hips). Think it;d also be a tad long on me.

God I'm fussy aren't I! Thanks for trying

This one? prettykittyfashion.co.uk/products/burgundy-wine-velvet-lace-rockabilly-cocktail-swing-dress no sleeves though.

figgyroo · 03/11/2017 15:29

Sorry @CupofBeans I definitely need sleeves. I rarely wear sleeveless, even in summer.

After saying I'd be no help I remember I'd seen this Jigsaw one www.jigsaw-online.com/product/velvet-constance-dress/J35208_BL010 could be jazzed up with jewellery and /or jacket. I find their clothes very well cut.

Hairq · 03/11/2017 16:19

Oh, that Ted baker dress is gorgeous. Neckline no good for me (giant boobs) or I'd be tempted myself.

goose1964 · 03/11/2017 16:41

how about this uk.monsoon.co.uk/view/product/uk_catalog/mon_20/3433460708

they have some other long sleeved velvet dresses

figgyroo · 03/11/2017 18:10

Thanks everyone, looks like I've got a few to go and try on.

Re Spanx. I got maidenform instead - it went from boobs down to thigh - I bought for smoothing effect but I looked much trimmer.

thedayismine · 03/11/2017 18:40

If you are happy to order a few to try online then I can highly recommend this website -

You don't mention your age so my taste may be a bit middle aged but there are some stunning dresses on here -

This looks lovely. I think it would be fine with small boobs and the print may disguise the tummy area

figgyroo · 03/11/2017 21:34

Thanks @thedayismine not heard of that site before so I'll have a look. Forgot to mention my age, 37.

@happymama99 I love that dress but I've already tried it on and it was hideous on me. I was gutted as I love the fabric/pattern.
