Can I rock this coat?

Have wanted a long wool coat for forever but am very short, very skint and very cool toned so most that I see are too long/too ££ and/or camel/brown colours which just don't suit me.

Found this in a charity shop this morning and think I love it. It's a very pale silvery grey which works really well with my colouring.

My style is quite eccentric retro/80's so the relaxed fit and lack of fastenings really appeal to that.

Would wear with jeans/jumpers or dresses and tights with either Dr martens or brogues. Was thinking some colourful scarves could add interest?

For anyone looking for something similar, my local Sainsbury's currently has a long-line grey coat (not sure if it's wool). It looks lovely, and I've been tempted, but not tried it on. Can't find the picture online, but they definitely had it in store yesterday! Obviously not as much of a bargain as the OP's lovely coat, but not too spendy as it's Sainsbury's .

Bargain! Now take it to the tailor and get 3 inches off the end.

It is a lovely coat but it wears you. Three inches off the end would reverse that.

That's a very good day's work, op. I love long, tailored wool coats, so pleased to see them back again.

I disagree about getting it shortened. I did that a few years ago with an unloved maxi coat and it didn't work at all - the proportions were all wrong. It's the length that makes it.

I have to agree with you Flo. I'll be leaving it as it is .

I've had stuff altered before as well and it just hasn't worked, like you say. I think the large lapels for example would look off if the coat were shorter.

It might be Chinese.

The only site to come up when I Googled, was Chinese.

I found (literally, it was being run over in the middle of Curtain Road in Blackwall) a scarf.

I looked up the label (don't have it on me, sorry) and found a Chinese scarf website.

There are that many Chinese people living here in the UK, that it makes sense for their cast offs to make their way into charity shops.

They do have some very stylish stuff.
