Has CK One been reformilated since it came out?

I haven’t smelled it since the 90s and thought it would make the perfect first cologne for my nearly 14 year old for Christmas. I sprayed some on my hand in Boots earlier tonight and nearly threw up. It’s NOTHING like I remember . Soapy oceanic shite, not the fresh green unisex scent I remember at all. I’m sure it’s not just my memory failing me. After all, scents are the one thing that our brains are REALLY good at remembering!

It was so different I even think I must have sprayed from the wrong bottle by mistake. Although I’ve googled and it looks the same.

Chloe is completely a different smell altogether since the 90s too. I love the new Chloe but thought the old one was just ok.

Why do they do this?!

Lagerfeld Chloe in the original teardrop shaped bottle and orange box hasn't been changed that much. The problem I'd they called their completely different perfume Chloe as well.
I imagine CK1 has been slightly reformulated. Obsession and the others have. It's because of EU ingredient restrictions. You can pick up vintage bottles on eBay.

Can you still get the year drop box Chloe? That’s the one I remember from my youth, but haven’t seem it in years.

I wear ck one and I don't think it's changed!

PNGirl · 31/10/2017 11:01

According to a forum I've just googled:

CK One was originally made by Calvin Klein Cosmetics from 1994 to the early 2000s, then Unilver until 2005, and the Coty from 2006 to present day.

I reckon the ingredients were probably subbed for cheaper options.

You must have a more sensitive nose than me! I think it smells just the same. Whenever I walk past someone wearing it I am transported back to my youth! It freaked me out the first time as I didn't know it had been rereleased and I couldn't work out why I suddenly had a wave of nostalgia!

ReggaetonLente · 31/10/2017 11:15

I do think our noses change, or maybe become less sensitive as we get older. I remember smelling Angel by Mugler as a teen and being truly horrified, I couldn't imagine why anyone would like it. But now, in my mid twenties, I love the smell! But I don't think it's been reformulated, it's my nose that's changed.

Same as how tastebuds change, i suppose.

Yes, the original Chloe is still widely available- you can pick it up for a tenner if you look around.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 31/10/2017 20:09

YEs maybe it’s just my sense of smell. It went REALLY sensitive after I had kids. DH thinks I make things up when I say I can smell X or Y as he can never smell things till they’re really strong.

Maybe it’s just changed. Or maybe if it IS being produced by a different manufacturer now, then it actually is using different ingredients and my sensitive nose can tell.

Who nose? Grin
