Thought I looked good going to casual do today. Had husband take photo and 😭💩 !! I'm overweight quite noticeably, my legs belong to a diplodocus!!! This has happened before, thought I looked ok not thin but at least with a shape, then seen photos👎 does anyone else feel like this? 😖

@Haffiana This is one of the few times on MN where the use of ‘professionally offended’ is inappropriate. There’s nothing ‘professional’ about pulling the OP up on her turn of phrase in this instance. So piss off with your MN bingo phrases.

PurpleDaisies that is perfectly true. Friends and even relatives of mine have also died from various terrible conditions and for various appalling reasons.

However as an adult, I personally can tell the difference between someone who is discussing a serious mental illness and someone who has used the incorrect expression to describe a common and easy-to-relate-to dismorphia. I can even manage to not ascribe disrespect to that error.

hungtotheover I do believe I read the phrase 'fucking offensive' upthread. Is that 'pulling up' these days?

Yep. When I look in the mirror I see a decent size 14, but the photo version of me shows a tight 16. I am always so disappointed.

Hey everyone, it's ok, i don't want anyone to get upset! Flowers I probably didn't understand enough about the condition and I'll rephrase and just say I looked bigger than I thought I was.

@Haffiana Dunno, is it? I didn’t say that. And have you answered your own utterly crass question about whether being professionally offended is a ‘disorder’? Confused

Hi there OP, we've had a few reports about your title so we'll edit to avoid any further upset.

I think what littlebird meant was it’s basically a lot harder to remain slim once you’ve had children or over 35. Unlike in your twenties and teens where you can eat what you like, when you like and never see the inside of a gym and still be super slim and shapely, it is nigh impossible to do this after a certain age. It can be done, but requires conscious effort. There are a few lucky people who it doesn’t really matter what age they are, they just manage to remain slim in spite of no exercise. I know a woman like that. She doesn’t eat healthy either so I don’t know how she manages it Hmm.

I also saw a photo of me this week where I was shocked by how big I was. Then I put a skirt on that used to hang on my hips that was tight on my waist....

It's the kick up the backside I needed TBH - tomorrow I start hard core exercising to get back to my normal weight

I have this! In my head I am a curvy size 12, then I see photographic evidence to the contrary! Bummer

My friend used to have a mirror that made you look thinner and taller. We would come back from a spend up and I felt really good trying on my purchases - wow! This is really flattering! Then go home and look like a potato sack with legs!

You look ok to me. That outfit is hard to pull off, especially the boots.
Please post another photo with something along the lines of:
court shoes (or sandals),
black straight leg trousers,
tucked in top (not baggy, preferably V neck or shirt/blouse).

I would keep the boots to wear with a dress or skirt and invest in a black pair to wear with the jeans, you can get really cheap ones if you are on a budget. untuck the to and I don't think you look bad at all, quite sexy shape if it wasn't cut in bits by the pale boots.

Please bin the leggings.

Unless you are slim they look awful.

This is me. Whenever I see myself in pictures and mirror I am always so much fatter than in my head.

You do look a little chunky on your thighs- so do I!
As others have said and you have acknowledgedthe boots aren't doing you any favours. I like your t shirt.

I always think my arms aren't too bad, considering, then I die a little bit when I see my upper arms in photos!

I really like the boots. Actually, the whole outfit is nice.

I think the 'problem' (sorry, don't know what word to use) is your thighs. You obviously could do with losing a little bit of weight, but you know that.

Maybe join the ladies in the 'lose a stone' thread? I think I will. I bought some new jeans yesterday from Gap. I have been wearing a 28 and they are baggy, so I assumed I'd lost weight and happily skipped off to Gap to buy a 27. Well, I literally can't get them past my knees ☹️. The 28's must have just got baggy with wear.

I tried on a jumper this morning that I’d not worn for a while - it looked as though I’d put one of my 7 year old’s on - funny how that keeps happening! I agree the boots are doing you no favours
