The search for the perfect nightie...

StepAwayFromCake · 28/10/2017 14:55

My two favourite nighties are wearing out. I wish I'd bought 10 or 20 of them, to last the rest of my life, because I've never come across anything like them since.

My wish-list:

Stretchy fabric, like jersey or interlock.
Short sleeves or sleeveless, but not strappy.

Natural fibres. Cotton or viscose is fine, and 5% elastane is also fine. (Silk? Yes, of course, but dh might object to me selling a child to fund my nightie habit.)

No itchy, scratchy, horrid lace! No synthetic trims at all.

No sparkly shit. No metallic threads.

And preferably no twee, cutsey logos or pictures.

I'm fussy, I know. But, TBF what I want is simplicity. It's just that simplicity doesn't seem to exist unless I'm happy to sleep in a baggy sleep-T.

Any hope for something along these lines? Anyone seen anything that might fit the bill?

Try Patra - they do a lot of silk and silk mixed with natural fabrics.

PookieSnackenberger · 28/10/2017 16:04

Lands End do various versions for summer and winter in good quality cotton.

I dream of stylish linen nightdresses for the summer.

Bananalanacake · 28/10/2017 16:09

Marks and Spencer do stretchy cotton short sleeve nightie.

DelphiniumBlue · 28/10/2017 16:38

M&S ones are mostly fake cotton - ie some other fabric marketed as "soft touch" ,which is very sweat-provoking! Just saying, check the labels carefully.
Sainsburys had proper cotton jersey nightwear last time I looked, and might be worth checking TK Maxx.

StepAwayFromCake · 28/10/2017 16:40

OMG I looked at the silk jersey nightdress. I want. But £60! And they had exactly what I wanted in cotton, too - only they didn't, because they were all sold out in my size. Sad But now I know to look out for Patra next year! Grin

I've got a Lands End nightie. It is lovely quality, but there's not enough of it. What they described as 'knee-length' is very much mini-skirt on me. I'm considering cutting it down to a t-shirt, as it rides up uncomfortably in bed.

So, off to check the other suggestions now.

Sainsbo didn't have anything suitable when I went in there last week.

Been looking today for nice long sleeved nighties that arent shirts and not for old ladies. Impossible!

reflexfaith · 28/10/2017 17:16

I've found some M&S ones to be ok, but I also struggle to find nighties that I like

frayedbuspass · 28/10/2017 17:42

Lands End also do a longer version of the same nightie, they call it mid-calf

Dodie66 · 28/10/2017 18:03

Bon Marche do lovely nighties
I bought 2 recently. Cotton, short sleeves and comfy

aniceearlynight · 28/10/2017 18:31

Try Noctu. They meet all your requirements and are made from organic cotton. I love their short sleeve nighties.

sonlypuppyfat · 28/10/2017 19:34

If you are a bit bigger Evans have nice nighties

StepAwayFromCake · 28/10/2017 22:04

Damart look likely.

(I read Damart and thought "Ewww, no, Damart is old ladyish. My mum used to buy Damart for herself." And then I realised: I am the age my mum was when she used to buy Damart stuff! Confused)

Lands End are good for this

Bobbins43 · 28/10/2017 22:06

Lands End do do long ones. I’m 5ft 9 and I have two that come to my mid calf...

SpongeCakeBigPants · 29/10/2017 07:29

How about this one from the white company? 100% cotton, nice star print and no frills or lace!

reup · 29/10/2017 07:37

The damart ones don’t show all the colours. I like longer jersey ones because I hate sitting down on a sofa and then thenightie doesn’t cover my bottom. BHS and M&S used to do nice one in bright colour not all pastels.

I found this one buts it’s not cotton

Lands End have a got a 30% discount on nightwear! SLP30

And they've got calf-length, short-sleeved, plain cotton nighties Grin
