HELP - what is "open smoking jacket"

Posh country house weekend. Dress code for dinner on Saturday night is "open smoking jacket".

Need clothes for next Friday.

Anyone? I need to go out now but should be back in a few hours. Pictures really appreciated. For DH as well btw!

I think it means wear a smoking jacket (i.e. not as posh as tux) and open (not buttoned) so slightly more casual?? But still posh!!!

I think when it's in a dress code it doesn't mean that sort of smoking jacket. I think it's still formal/dark suit, but no tux.

Oddly enough I was given a YSL tux jacket years ago but I never wear it as the shoulders are like an airplane landing strip. It's stuffed in a cupboard somewhere, I never know what to do with it.

A Spanish friend once told me always get things which fit in the shoulders/hips as everything else can be altered but not those things

VIVA when I first looked it up pictures of the Playboy owner popped up and I worried. I have it in hand. We can rent one for DH and I have a naice frock.

Yes, there used to be a sketch on i think tgi Friday with an old bloke in a smoking jacket and I seem to remember it was a Hugh Hefner style silk dressing gown affair. Which I don't think would be suitable!

But what if it is a posh pyjama party! I don't think I've ever heard of this dress code and I think they could have been a bit more helpful. Would it be possible to ring up and ask them (or the butler?)
