Another winter wedding (guest) dress one...

Can I canvas opinions on this...?

www.johnlewis.com/store/gerard-darel-martha-dress/p2899604?navAction=jump&colour=Black

First off, black is OK for weddings these days, right? My mother (who will be at the wedding too) is slightly horrified but in all honesty though I love my mother dearly I don't think she's the person to take style advice from!!

I would/will be wearing it beneath a very glam and bright-coloured coat for a) warmth and b) to make it a bit more 'wedding'-y than just a plainish black dress.

With black heels, I suppose (need to allow room in my budget for a pair as I don't actually own ANY black heels at all these days) and black bag. Gold jewellery. A blow-dry. A happy smile.

Is it nice? Smart enough? Wedding-appropriate enough?

fwiw I am 41 and about a size 10/12.

Ok, so how about this as a budget-friendly cobalt dress? Very simple but not totally dull and easy to dress up with nice jewellery and/or a yellow coat. Wink

I like that one a lot, Hundred!!

Always like a flute sleeve like those...

Would navy shoes work, or kill it, do you think?

From how you describe yourself, I think this dress would look fabulous on you.....but I think I might be trying to push you too far out of your comfort zone with this one. Smile

I think you could get away with navy shoes with it. Wasn't sure at first then had another look at the dress and thought "yes, that'll work". Smile

d'you know what, Hundred, I actually saw that dress a couple of weeks ago and was sorely tempted. I LOVE it - the print is actually very 'stark' if that makes sense and the fabric looks heavenly in real life too.

It's very very expensive though... I guess I go have the navy shoes to go with it already...

May have to try it on in-store and see how hopelessly I fall for it... would have to rein in spending for a bit though!!

Ha ha I think we have similar taste. I love that dress but don't have the figure to wear it these days (I'm working on getting back into shape but at the moment I can only fantasy shop).

At least now you have some options. And the Wallis one is a cheap fallback if you don't find anything you like better.

And I love love love this JIgsaw one too, Hundred, another one I saw in-store on that trip... again beyond my budget but stunning (and patterned!! Go me!!)

Ooooh yes I LOVE that dress!! Nice find! Maybe you're a pattern person after all as long as it's modern and striking rather than girlie-girlie.
