I'm nearly 50, size 8, 5'7. My legs are slim. But Would I look shit? Are they a fashion disaster? I was thinking they might look ok in black with a nice top and heeels for Xmas dos? Am I deluded?
Need some honest fashion advice please!!
I don't want everyone to point and laugh. Shock Grin

Don’t risk velvet leggings. 1990 would be on the phone asking for its clothes back.

Mind you, I was amused to see that silver puffa jackets are back. I wore a silver parka with velvet leggings in 1990.

Hmmm. I found myself picking up a crushed velvet, burgundy pair of leggings in H&M the other day. I was seriously tempted. I'm mid forties -and must be beyond help!

Black velvet jeans are very different to black velour leggings. Why don’t you just order some & try them? I’d avoid black leather leggings/jeans at 49/50 as I think you’d look a bit ‘even though I’m old I’ve still got it’. I’m the same vintage as you & adult daughters are a good sounding board.

Cheers guys. You're right about daughters being a good sounding board. I wanted white jeans in the summer before my daughter put the stoppers on my desires.

Those uniqlo velvet trousers look good - I'm nipping into town later (with daughter) so will have a look at velvet trousers in TopShop and the like.

Definitely will steer clear of velvet leggings, even burgundy ones, oh and crushed velvet 😀. Although I'm tempted to try a pair on for the comedy value and to wind my daughter up .

I think you should pretend to want the crushed velvet burgundy leggings - it will give you so much amusement, especially if you suggest wearing them with a cold shoulder top & —silly— fashionable shoes. Sorry can’t do strike out with iPhone anymore.

😀. I've just told her I could do with looking for some crushed velvet leggings whilst we're out. So I've sowed the seed.
She pulled a strange shape with her mouth, composed herself and said 'I think you need to rethink that idea' 😀.

Fuck it, why can’t women wear what they want at any age?? Who makes these bloody “rules”?

If you want crushed velvet leggings, you go get them!

nutnerk · 22/10/2017 11:44

AVOID - sorry, you are too old by about 30 years

DontCallMeCharlotte · 22/10/2017 12:14

I had velvet leggings in the 90s and I adored them then and would ADORE them now. Where can I get some? I quite liked 90s fashion. In fact I found an old pair of jeans at the bottom of a pile today and i've realised they're so old they're bootcut. 90s bootcut.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 22/10/2017 12:16

I have no idea why the second adore was in caps. Even I didn't adore them that much!

rightknockered · 22/10/2017 12:27

I wear leather leggings and I'm 40s, don't think I look as though I think I've 'still got it' Hmm

MatildaTheCat · 22/10/2017 14:35

I have the Uniqlo version and rather like them. Dark grey and not super skinny. Not sure I'd wear them to a party as they are a jeans alternative for me. They are also thermal so could get a bit sweaty Grin.
