Oil cleansing method help

Hi my skin has blackheads and is very oily. I've heard of the oil cleansing method. Is it any good? Do you do it daily? Where do you buy the oils? What's best for oily skin? Thanks in advance x

I've been doing it for years after my skin became very sensitive suddenly. Castor oil is meant to be good to add to another type (sweet almond is often used) for oily skin. Tbh I use olive oil half the time because I always have it in the house.
What I like about it is that your makeup gets very thoroughly dissolved and it doesn't leave my face itchy or my eyes sore like a lot of products do.

I like the Una Brennan Superfacialist Vit C oil. Smells lovely too. On offer in Boots at the minute for £7ish.

I do it, but if you're prove to breakouts I wouldn't.
In saying that, my skin is now soft and balanced and glowy, been doing it years.
I used coconut oil for awhile, but just switched to avocado/olive oil mix for winter.

One important point, after you've taken it off w the washcloth, you need an actual moisturizer.

I do get breakout of spots around the time of my period. Would this make them worse? X

You just have to try, you can always switch to a very gentle cleanser around your period

I have rosacea and during a flare joboba oil cleanse is great - leaves my skin soft and non irritated.

Very oily sensitive skin here with blackheads and prone to outbreaks.

I use coconut oil as make up remover and cleanser. Rub over face, remove with warm washcloth and then rinse off with second clean cold washcloth. Once a day, no moisturiser. I don't wash in the morning as found it strips my skin too much - might out light moisturiser on in the morning if skin tight due to winter weather.

Skin is so much better and clearer since I started this routine and it saves me an awful lot of money!

Very prone to breakouts on the chin here. I double cleanse using an oil (Body Shop Camomile although looking to move to a cheaper option) to start and then some kind of foaming cleanser after.

When I'm not being lazy and keep this up I am always amazed how much better my skin looks.

I use The Body Shop Chamomile Oil.

Definitely no need for moisturiser after, that would defeat the whole purpose.

I always need moisturiser afterwards.

The reason I suggested a moisturizer after us because the oil itself is not an occlusive (an o gradient that keeps the moisture in your skin ), or a humectant. It's just a skin conditioner.

Cleansing with oil means your skin finds a new balance. It takes about a month to get there. Adding moisturiser defeats the purpose.

But without the occlusive, no moisture is being held into the skin. It's just evaporating off the top (how fast just depends). Oil cleansing is just an extra gentle (and effective) way of getting all the other oily gunk and makeup off. I don't think it can change your skin type just from being applied over the top of your skin , and even oily skin needs a moisturizer. But each their own w skin and all

I would never not apply a moisturizer after cleansing. My skin drinks moisturizer and I like it to feel lubricanted!

Mine too, I rinse off all the oil with water and a flannel,my skin feels tight without moisturiser afterwards.

Straight oil cleanse with castor oils etc scares me a bit cos I have very reactive oily skin. I use banila co clean it zero purity, starts as a solid and melts when used. Very good, I've found. They also do one for oily skin which I'm yet to try.

Castor oil was dreadful for my skin.

I've used oils in the past and I liked them, currently I use a cream but I'm waiting for my new Decleor oil cleanser to arrive with bated breath!

Doesn't caster oil encourage hair growth? I don't want a hairy face! 😂

Use 10% castor oil mixed with the main oil. The castor oil draws all the gunk out then you reduce the castor oil until you use none. I use olive oil. Been using it for nearly 8 years now.
