What can I wear with this dress?

I love it but it's very short. It's too pretty to wear with leggings what else could I wear it with? It's navy by the way in case it's not showed up properly.

What can I wear with this dress?

I totally agree with theboywho! Those are perfect tights and matched with heels.

I find that if a dress looks too short for me then it still looks too short with tights or leggings so I don't really understand this advice.

You might not want to do this if it's new but when I gave up on high hemlines, I chopped a few inches off a couple of my favourite dresses and converted them to tops. If I'm honest, they were never quite the same but I did get a bit more wear out of them and at least when I did give up, I felt I'd tried everything.

No sewing skills needed - just scissors. (No I didn't even hem them!)

Whatshouldmyusernamebe · 16/10/2017 09:56

It's not ridiculously short though just a bit.

It's your call but I find leggings or tights disguise my knees and that's it. They don't give me back my thighs.

Whatshouldmyusernamebe · 16/10/2017 10:05

It looks perfectly decent with leggings but just not smart enough. I wear longish tops all the time with leggings. It's fine. As long as my crotch is covered.

Save it for summer and wear it with a (fake) tan and heels. It's too delicate for tights etc.

Floisme · 16/10/2017 10:20

Apologies, we're probably at cross purposes. I thought you were saying the short length didn't suit you. If it's more about smartness then I'd just wear it dressed down with tights and accept it isn't as 'occasiony' you'd thought.

Those (and all navy) tights are awful! Plus what shoes would you wear with them? The black shoes in the photo look hideous with them, and if you're going to clash navy with black then just wear black tights in the first place Hmm

I would either add in the extra lace panel (you can use iron on tape so no need for sewing, completely fool proof and you can take it off if you need to) or just nude tights and pants that cover everything so you don't accidentally flash anyone. As long as it covers your bum it might be short but it's not indecent! Depending on where you want to wear it too you can wear a long coat so you're covered at the start of the night, won't see the length if you're sitting down for a meal, then if you go clubbing you won't care about it once you've had a few drinks!

It's a pretty dress btw!

Whatshouldmyusernamebe · 16/10/2017 11:58

Thanks!! Yes it so so pretty. Maybe if I lose a stone it will be longer!!

Which black shoes do you mean once and never again?

Sheer black tights are so 80s! I would have to try with the dress on, but black opaques, nudes, navy or gray tights, or micro fishnets might all work.

onceandneveragain · 16/10/2017 12:23

The shoes the model is wearing with the navy tights from John Lewis that theboywhowouldn't... posted a link to. Also Shockat £25 for tights! I'm sure they're good quality but I always find I snag expensive ones as easily as cheap ones, so never spend loads on them but that seems extortionate!
