What do you think of these “leather” leggings?

Ive bought these to wear the n a couple of weeks for the Sunday (daytime to evening) or maybe the Saturday night with a sparkly top.
Daytime I’d wear them with suede ankle boots, evening will be sandals.
I like them but my fear is I look fat and too old for them (42) when i was trying them on I went out to show oh and a lady customer was sniggering, maybe not at me but as they are different for me I felt a bit selfish conscious. OH likes them on me but he is younger then me and I don’t want to look like mutton dressed as lamb. Help! Honest advice appreciated!

In wondering now if I could get away with a pair of coated jeans now and a sparkly top for our Xmas do. If I can find a sparkly top. Or maybe I am too old (older and much bigger than you OP)

missfliss · 14/10/2017 17:50

They look great - I'm nearly 41 and wear mine with pride.
I wear long tops with mine because I have a tum x

HundredMilesAnHour · 14/10/2017 20:21

I pretty much live in my leather leggings and I'm 47. Age is just a number Wink

One2another · 15/10/2017 07:20

Bluesheep8I’ll check the colour later as I’m sure there’s some left in my shed lol!

Thanks everyone you’ve all made me feel better about them. I’ve lost two still feel like the size as before when I had no confidence to wear anything nice.

They’re from Topshop to the pp who asked.

Can I ask something?
Are they very warm to wear?
I am 57, six feet tall, 34 inch inside leg and size 14. Part of me wants to try a pair but i don't know if i would look like a sad woman trying too hard.

InfiniteSheldon · 15/10/2017 07:38

I've got a pair from Oasis I wear with colourful floaty tops and ankle boots I love love love them always get loads of compliments so I say go for it.

zippyswife · 15/10/2017 08:01

I’m the same age as you op. I have just bought a pair and could have written your post! But they look great on you and you should wear them and I should wear mine too!!

greendale17 · 15/10/2017 08:05

I don’t like leather leggings- screams chavvy and cheap

PrimalLass · 15/10/2017 08:09

I think you look great. However, as someone else ^^ has said, I prefer coated/waxed skinnies. I just had another pair (Next) delivered yesterday and also have the Boden pair.

Bluesheep8 · 15/10/2017 08:20

@ OP, thanks re paint colour...what you said about having lost weight is so true,it takes our heads a long long time to catch up with our bodies when we lose weight. I'm 5 and a half stone lighter than when I was at my heaviest and I still have times when I think as my previous self when considering outfits.

EnidButton · 15/10/2017 09:11

They definitely worth sniggering at you! You look great.

I spent far too long puzzling over why the lovely patterned carpet, the mirror is stood on, wasn't showing in the reflection. It's wallpaper isn't it? 🤦🏻‍♀️

EnidButton · 15/10/2017 09:12

They definitely WEREN'T sniggering at you. Not worth!

ScarlettDarling · 15/10/2017 09:13

You look lovely and definitely not fat. I would go for a longer top though, not because you look fat, ( because you don't!) but I do think the top part of leggings needs to be covered!

blisterinthesun · 15/10/2017 09:30

YY to weight loss taking time to sink in. I’m three stone lighter than I was this time six months ago. I’ve gone from a 16/18 to a 10/12. I cannot get my head around it.

Can you link to those trousers please op? I can’t find them on the Topshop website and I’ve got a 20% off voucher to use up Grin

missfliss · 15/10/2017 11:05

Didn't realise I was screaming chavvy and cheap Greendale.

Will have to try harder Grin

Peppermeant · 15/10/2017 11:14

I have to say I'm another one who prefers either coated jeans or fake leather trousers (with a fly) over leggings. I also dont like the seams up the front. You can totally get away with the look though Op, I just dont personally like the ones you have on

EnidButton · 15/10/2017 14:43

Are coated jeans back? Maybe they never went away but I remember them being around a lot in the early 2000's.

KeiraH · 15/10/2017 15:27

I am in a minority but I don’t think they do anything for you. Maybe try them with a longer top?

DameDoom · 15/10/2017 15:52

They will only look cheap and naff if styled a la Towie/Wag or Jane McDonald is wearing them.

You look great OP. I always wear a long top or jumper with mine.

I am 45 and don't give a flying fook if anyone thinks I am too old for leather leggings. Mine will have to be prised out of my cold, dead hands.

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 15/10/2017 16:03

I wear mine something along these lines (as per the photos). I don't really get out at night but if I did I'd go for a blazer, sparkly top and heeled boots. Lots of lovely ideas on Pinterest. I hope you got them and enjoy wearing them!

I’m nearly 49, I wear ‘leather’ jeans and don’t give a fuck if people think I’m ‘too old’. I wear mine with biker boots (I can’t cope with heels) and I’m told I look good in them. I like them, they are comfortable. You look good in the photo, are you comfortable in them? Just do it. Life is too short to be frumpy just because you’re 40+

RestingBitchFaced · 18/10/2017 20:07

They look really nice

ijustwantfiveminutespeace · 18/10/2017 20:37

Ooooh I think you look fab in them!
