Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but rally just wondering if anyone know which is your correct image, mirror or photo.

Whenever I look in the mirror, I think I look okay, but if I take a photo ie, selfie, I think I look absolutely hideous.

Same I think I look great sat at my mirror in the morning, get to work (own a salon) and think I look like dogshit 😂.

blibblibs · 10/10/2017 21:35

I'm going with with mirror because I always, always always look crap in photos!

If I looked that bad in a mirror I'd never leave the house!

Nadinexo1 · 10/10/2017 21:36

I'm exactly the same! I think i look attractive in the mirror and in real life however I must just not be photogenic at all because I honestly look dreadful in photos and people have mentioned that I look different in photos.
My ex used to laugh at how bad I looked in photos and go on about how if I looked like that on real life he wouldn't be with meHmm

Ilovecrisps22 · 10/10/2017 21:42

I’m so critical of myself when I see a photo, I can pick up every single flaw xx

Depends on the mirror. Wide mirrors are my friends (long face). Selfless, not so much.

RubyRedTights · 10/10/2017 21:47

Haha!
I always look at photos and say "oh. Is that what I actually look like? ConfusedSad".
Then again, I'm always disappointed when I look in the mirror too!
But yes, photos are not good.
Do you think you'd look alright in a photo of you looking in a mirror?

YoureAnArseholeDenise · 10/10/2017 21:49

Well what you see in photos is what other people see.

It just looks wrong to you because everything is in the other side to what you’re used to.

Ilovecrisps22 · 10/10/2017 21:58

Well if my true image is a photo image, then I was at the end of the queue when looks were being given out!!!

It depends. In photos, with a good light and fair wind behind me, I think I look fine. But everyday life I think, is the real you. It’s 3D, it’s animated, it’s real “in the moment” lighting.

If in doubt....smile!

pp2017 · 10/10/2017 22:13

Someone once told me that when you look in a mirror you see in 3D whereas a photo is “flattened” hence why we think we look bigger, or that certain parts of us do....

I have no idea whether this is just wishful thinking or scientifically correct - but I’m happy to believe the latter 😂😂😂

CaoNiMartacus · 10/10/2017 22:46

I hope the mirror shows the true picture! I look like a beast in photos.

HappyGirlNow · 11/10/2017 05:26

Selfies tend to distort facial features due to the proximity of the camera to the face..

whoopsiedaisydangle · 11/10/2017 07:39

@pp2017 I hope that's true! Grin

I look god awful in photos! When I look in the mirror I don't look as bad!

dudsville · 11/10/2017 07:43

I gain weight in the seconds it takes to snap a pic. Also someone sneaks up and removes my makeup and frizzes out my hair. I don't know how it happens that I can look in a mirror and like what I see, curves, and then a photo turns it into a shapeless lump.

Jigglyball · 11/10/2017 08:03

Well, a photo shows you as others see you, but it can be affected by lighting etc. and a mirror shows your reversed image. A video is even better as you are in motion.

One way you can see yourself as others see you, is to hold 2 mirrors together at an angle until you are able to see the unreversed you. It can be creepy. I believe there is a theory about the brain preferring things that it has repeated exposure to. And as our faces are unsymmetrical, seeing your unreversed image can seem odd (lopsided eyes, mouth etc).

Nadinexo1 · 11/10/2017 09:09

I don't think the photo image is the real image of yourself though. As I've said above I usually look dreadful in photos however there's been a couple of photos I've taken where I look amazing but it was all to do with angle and lighting as I know for sure I don't look like that really and it took about 20 selfies in a row til I looked good!

pp2017 · 11/10/2017 12:53

@whoopsiedaisydangle

I like to tell myself it’s true 😆😆

SukiTheDog · 11/10/2017 14:53

Good grief, I’m glad I’m 55 and my eyesight’s going 😀
