Black for an evening wedding do

I very rarely go out and even more rarely need to wear very formal, smart clothes.

We have been invited to an evening wedding do just after Christmas and I am loath to spend £££ on an outfit I might never wear again. I have a lovely black dress from last year's work Christmas do (I haven't worn it since as I have had no occasion to).

Would it be a faux pas to wear it? I will ask my friend of course, but I don't think she would care what I wore because she is nice. It is a second wedding, but I don't think it is relevant.

I would say completely fine!

I’ve worn black to a day wedding before. It’s fine!

KadabrasSpoon · 08/10/2017 12:16

I wouldn't personally. I think white and black are big nono for weddings.

AnaisB · 08/10/2017 12:18

I wouldn’t give it another thought. Have fun.

It's an evening do Kadabra not the wedding itself.

I will update on what my friend says as well.

I'm planning to wear a black dress to a church wedding next month. I'm very much a c-list guest (wife of a cousin) so doubt anyone will give a monkey's. While it might be frowned upon if you're the mother of the bride or a significant ex I reckon "ordinary" guests can get away with it.

KadabrasSpoon · 08/10/2017 12:28

I still wouldn't personally but it's up to you. When I got married I didn't mind what people wore but other people did comment but if you don't mind that go for it.

joannah323 · 08/10/2017 12:34

Go for it. I dont think anyone would think its out of place

MontyPants · 08/10/2017 12:36

As long as it's not white, it's fine!

Butterymuffin · 08/10/2017 12:38

For an evening do I think black is fine. There'll be other people wearing what they'd wear for an evening out, which for many women would be a black dress.

I wouldn't wear black. Black is for funerals
