Birchbox monthly boxes - are they worth it?

That's it really- £10 + P&P seems reasonable but is what you get worth it? Quite like the idea as long as it is decent value! Thanks

some months were good but some were a bit rubbish, seemed to be the same kind of stuff you got sent, i got 3 months in a row and got nail varnish

Thank you chipandpeas, that's what I was wondering.

Some of the stuff is really good. I have had some excellent hair products like a brilliant hair mask, face packs and hair styling products - some of which I have bought again. Have also had some lovely make up brushes etc. My only caveat is that the make up I have had has been weird shades that absolutely would never suit me. As I have provided them with my skin/hair colour etc I don't quite see why I got sent what I did. I have had too many pink lipsticks! And sometimes you pick something and they send the wrong thing (but on the upside, if you complain they send the right thing and you get to keep both). The boxes are really pretty and also quite useful.

I like the small sizes - v useful for holidays etc. I don't like that there is a lot of repetition and too much pink lipstick!

I don't wear pink lipstick ever and rarely have the patience for nail varnish so not sure I'll go for it

I've never had a pink lipstick in any of mine (wish I had, quite enjoy them!) but still have been largely disliking my boxes - my problem was too many tiny tubes of moisturiser.

I was a subscriber for about six months until I cancelled last week after two boxes in a row went missing (they were resdispatched, but still). I sent customer service an email detailing how unacceptable I found it and that I was thinking of cancelling but they didn't seem to care at all ... so I cancelled!

They're shit unless you're after a lifetime supply of dry shampoo and khol eyeliner.

I tried them but again i kept getting the same products.

Glossybox is a little better.

i have joined Dollibox only my 4th box this month but so far so good.

I used to get lovemebeauty where you can choose your items. I only stopped as I ended up with a massive stash of stuff to use. They have some really good brands. Latest in Beauty is good as is You Magazine.

Ive had Glossybox and Birchbox in the past and have been left with loads of hydrating shampoos and nail varnishes which I'll never wear. IMO Latest in Beauty is the best. You choose your own items and new products appear on the site everyday. - some individual items may have an RRP of £30.

I would actually like nail polish or hydrating shampoo! I wish they didn't keep sending me pink lipstick (which my blonde cousin has benefited from) and endless mascaras (I am fussy about the brushes and can't get on with most of them). I may look at some of the others mentioned.

TBH, I really liked the first five or six, it was after that that I started to get annoying repeats and things I would never use. So maybe try a few and then cancel if you like the basic idea.

DD is very unimpressed with this month’s - 2 shower gel style products & a body scrub. Can’t remember what else but she isn’t happy

Does your DD want a black mascara, a pink lipstick, a face wash or some dry shampoo? All unused. I like body scrubs and shower gels. Would swap any of the above for the body scrub and more than one for a body scrub plus shower gel (not the melon shower gel, I have that one, though it is quite nice actually).

I'm on my 3rd subscription with Birchbox. They lure me back with a free box or gift.
However after having 3 crap boxes in a row, I'm cancelling this time for good.

Look fantastic is amazing. I pay £14 a month and been doing it for 7 months now - was meant to be just 3 months but carried it on as you always get fab stuff and it's worth far more than £14!

I enjoyed the novelty of a parcel every month, and used enough of the products to get my money's worth, but found that there were so many eyebrow products, weird coloured lipsticks, contoury shit and so on (May have been great if I'd been 10 years younger) that I ended up feeling guilty about the waste and cancelling it. I spent the money saved on a beer subscription for DH's Christmas present, of which there has been no wastage at all.

You can cancel and resubscribe to birchbox at any point so what I tend to do is wait until there’s a box that looks good (or a discount code) and then buy the one every so often. Lots of people do unboxing videos on YouTube so you can see some of the things that you might get.

I liked them when I had a newborn and wasn't getting out and about much, so treats to the door were ideal. But they got repetitive after a while, as pp have said, and most of the samples are still in my massive box of unused samples. Lots of trial size Benefit mascaras were handy. Overall Glossybox had slightly better products as I got a couple of decent makeup brushes, although Birchbox had better branding and felt more fun to open. Most months you could have more fun spending £10 in Superdrug!
