Dress discrepancy - am I over-reacting?

I ordered this dress (pictured left) over the weekend and it arrived today. Wearing it to a wedding this week but I think it looks really different in person (pictured right) to the one pictures on the website?

It seems to be a lot greener when I originally thought it was grey (maybe that's the lighting though) and there's a lacking in flowers and extra leaves?

Considering emailing the company and saying I'm not entirely happy. Am I over-reacting about the difference do you think? I guess dresses will all have slightly different prints?!

You are no over-reacting, the pattern is completely different

LIZS · 04/10/2017 08:08

What does it look like on? In daylight? The main issue is that the fabric has been cut at a different point of the pattern repeat but that is inevitable with a large print. Was it expensive?

Rainallday · 04/10/2017 08:15

The flowers look a bit upside down compared to the dress in the first picture. I would say it's different to what was advertised.

retainertrainer · 04/10/2017 08:17

I think it's the same fabric but a different cut so the placement of the roses is different. Still nice though.

EnidNextDoor · 04/10/2017 08:21

It looks exactly the same but the fabric is the other way round (But it's not upside down, that implies a right and wrong way) and it's extremely brightly lit in the first photo and on some sort of mannequin rather than just slung on a plastic coathangers. But it's the same dress.

WillowWeeping · 04/10/2017 08:37

It's the same pattern but cut at a different point in the repeat and presented updated down.

If you don't like it just return it

WillowWeeping · 04/10/2017 08:37

upside down

JumpingJellybeanz · 04/10/2017 08:40

I agree with the others, the fabric is upside down on the one you've been sent.

blueskyinmarch · 04/10/2017 08:42

I agree that it is the same fabric but the dress you have has been cut from a different bit of the fabric. No two dresses will look the same made from that fabric.

littlepinkgiraffe · 04/10/2017 08:51

Thanks all, I thought it may be that it's just a different cut from the fabric. I won't email them then, I still like the dress - just think it's more leafy than floral.

It wasn't expensive - £30 and is all I have that I like for a wedding on Friday so too late to find another really!

I think you should contact them. It ok to be cut from a different bit of fabric. It's not ok to be cut from an upside down bit.

blueskyinmarch · 04/10/2017 09:15

If it is an inexpensive

blueskyinmarch · 04/10/2017 09:17

Sorry phone went flakey. If it is an inexpensive dress it is likely to have been made abroad very cheaply. The company is unlikely to be concerned about which way up the fabric is cut.

Ojoj1974 · 04/10/2017 09:20

As it looks completely different to the photo I would complain and send it back

Paintbox · 04/10/2017 09:23

I'm guessing at that price, the retailer won't care. It's just that it's a large print and has been cut a different way. I've seen this a lot with inexpensive items with large print

theclockticksslowly · 04/10/2017 09:28

I think the skirt part is cut as a circle skirt - because the fabric is directional, one side of the skirt is going to be upside down. Ideally they should have put the back of the skirt as the upside down side. More ideally, they should have cut the skirt in two pieces or used non-directional fabric.

Lesley1980 · 05/10/2017 00:10

The one is the picture looks like it has seems on the skirt & bust to give it shape. The one you bought the pattern is upside down & looks like it's just a length of material sewn at the waist. If that's the case it's not the same dress as the one in the picture

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 05/10/2017 00:15

It's just been cut on a different part of the roll of fabric. When you have a print like that I would say it's impossible to have them all exactly the same.
