How do you actually remove the make up? Do you rinse off whatever you are using afterwards?

WomblingThree · 09/10/2017 08:57

@Dalesgirl16 I get dermatitis round my eyes and the only eye makeup remover I can use is Garnier Simply Essentials Soothing (the blue two layer one). Anything else shreds my skin.

Dalesgirl16 · 09/10/2017 10:00

Damediazepam I remove makeup with cotton wool soaked with makeup remover and what’s left I gently wipe with wet flannel .

Dale's
My eyelids are red and swollen and the skin is flaking and my eyes are stinging.
At least you have dark eyelashes, mine are sooo pale.
Without eye make up I look very unwell.
What to do????

Dalesgirl16 · 09/10/2017 21:24

Allergic, go to the dr!

Seriously - L'oreal sensitive eye make up remover - blue liquid one - it saved me when I had a major blepharitis flare up.

Honestly, it's fine OP - try it.

Dalesgirl16 · 10/10/2017 07:34

frenchquarter I was using a loreal one til it ran out last week and think that was the problem. I will check the sensitive one out in case that one wasn’t.

I’ve bought some extra virgin coconut oil. Not dared wear makeup yet but the Eumovate I was given has cleared it. Will try some coconut oil first next time I try makeup. I think I need to change my face wash as I mostly never used makeup remover when I used to use ROC cleanser but boots dont do ROc anymore

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 11/10/2017 22:31

I wouldn't use face wash at all, just coconut oil then a warm flannel. That will be more than enough.

PickAChew · 11/10/2017 22:43

If you get it when you take your makeup off, how do you know it's that. The dermatitis I get is a painful long term cracking rash which, in the case of make up, would be ipossible to narrow down to either the makeup or the remover (when lipstick caused it, it was instant, but only once it had set in)

If you;re absolutely sure the make up isn't the problem, use a bland oily cleanser. Any of the clinique make up or eye make up removers are great but very gentle for most people. I don't wear make up at all any more because I've had enough of the irritation but I used to use the Clinique comforting cream cleanser to make sure no residue was left from my moisturiser then, when that was discontinued, spent an absolute fortune on all sorts of other brands which felt like acid on my face and left it quite sore, until i tried the take the day off cleansing lotion and found it great.

Lush is also brilliant if you have sensitive skin and allergies. You could try their ultrabland cleanser (too rich for me but loads of people love it) and i hthink they have a few eye make up remover options.

Dalesgirl16 · 12/10/2017 08:21

Thank you. I love wearing make up but as I’m home with a baby I don’t wear it every day. The idea of getting everything off my face with things like coconut oil is quite new to me but will try it!

Dales I have something similar which flares up now and again and most recently I thought it might be the sulphates in my shampoo - switched to a sulphate free one (from L'Oreal) and it has cleared up now. I also only use three free nail polishes as well as for a while I wasn't sure if they were the problem - apparently it's a common cause of dermatitis around the eyes.

I use Waitrose pure make up remover but it's not great at getting everything off to be honest. I think I might try one of those microfibre cloths being recommended!

Dalesgirl16 · 12/10/2017 20:56

losgann thanks I think I will switch my shampoo too as I’m so sensitive it won’t hurt. I’m certain it’s either eye make up or the remover though .

Thanks to someone who suggested them I've bought some of the microfibre cloths and they remove my makeup really well with just warm water.

I don't know how to bold the name, but to Dalesgirl16 I know that Benefit mascara is well known to cause a lot of people problems. I can suggest Boots No7 tubing or the sensitive eyes mascara as an alternative?

WhataHexIgotinto · 12/10/2017 22:39

This is the only thing I use now and it's fantastic. After a few days my eyes actually felt normal again for the first time in I don't know how long!

Dalesgirl16 · 12/10/2017 23:16

Is tubing the name of a mascara?

OP posts:
CremeBrulee · 13/10/2017 22:19

Tubing mascara isn’t a brand, it means any mascara that coats each individual lash (tubes them) in a polymer blend that sets. To remove, you use warm water and rub the tubes off in flakes.

The original tubing mascara was Blinc but there are lots now. Boots No7 do one, it’s in a gold tube.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/10/2017 13:04

I hated the boots one,it sort of pinched my eyelashes , it was only good for a very natural look too so useless for me as I like lashes so heavy it takes 4 seconds to blink Grin

Dalesgirl16 · 15/10/2017 00:30

How do i not know of them! Need to get one then, thanks

Ponds Cold Cream with a hot face cloth is the winner for me so far....

almost all those mentioned above have generated a bad reaction for me but this stuff really works for me and leaves my face feeling super soft...

Dalesgirl16 · 15/10/2017 20:03

When you say hot face cloth what do you do?

OP posts:
doubleshotespresso · 16/10/2017 23:23

I smother m my whole face in the cold cream and sort of massage it into the skin while I let a hot tap run.... them I drench a clean cotton face flannel or sometimes a muslin cloth and use this to remove make-up. It removes every trace of make-up and leaves skin feeling clean and really soft.

Another recommendation would be the Una Brennan cleansing oil, used in the same method as above. Both work well for me....

Dalesgirl16 · 17/10/2017 15:24

doubleshotespresso do you have skin problems like dermatitis? I just want to make sure these recommendations are ok for my skin. Just bought some ponds cold cream !

OP posts:
doubleshotespresso · 18/10/2017 03:07

Yes I do sadly! And awful eczema when I get run down.....

amaraneedshelp · 01/01/2019 11:42

I tried coconut oil for around a year and although it removes makeup very effectively its really easy to develop milia around the eyes due to 2 much oil (as i did quite severely), so watch out. xo
