purplepillowcase what moisturiser do you use?

just my normal moisturiser (nivea q10 night cream)

I have developed freakishly sore peeling eyelids which sting when anything is put on them. I began with it after using benefit "They're real" mascara which needed eye make up remover. I'm not usually sensitive skinned so was surprised when a) nivea b) bodyshop camomile and c) lancome hurt. All soothing type creams and gels stung too. I tried another mascara which didn't help.

I moved onto a tubing mascara which comes off with warm water alone. My eyelids are much better after a week of nothing on them other than warm water. I don't really wear eyeshadow so no need to use anything on my eyelids. They're not perfect yet, but much improved.

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish

I also use Blephasol lotion. Shelf life is 2 months and it is £10 a pop but worth it. They do wipes as well. I’ve also used Lumie eyelid wipes bought from Superdrug.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 08/10/2017 16:52

I had to use blephasol for a bit but the optician made a big point that micelair water would do the same for a lot cheaper.

Auburn2001 · 08/10/2017 16:56

Did the optician recommend a particular brand Dame? I have tried a few different brands but found that they all stung my eyes and didn’t help my blepharitis.

PurplePillowCase · 08/10/2017 16:59

micellar water is just expensive soapy water.
bar of soap and flannel does the same job...

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 08/10/2017 17:01

Auburn I used Wilkos own brand, it's 99p. Excellent and nothing like a bar of soap.

DrSeuss · 08/10/2017 17:06

How about plain olive oil or some of those microfibre cloths with water?

Auburn2001 · 08/10/2017 19:04

Thanks Dame I’ll take a look.

Can’t use soap or oil near my eyes. I get styes easily and the Blephasol and Lumie wipes are the only things that have kept them away. But the OP’s issue is different I know.

battenbergbutterfly · 08/10/2017 19:14

I had horrendous puffy flakey eyes due to a change in make up and used Astral to remove make up and moisturise and it saved my sore eyes.

naomi83mother · 08/10/2017 19:32

Simple make up remover wipes (green packet) only ones that I use.

PastysPrincess · 08/10/2017 19:33

Believe it or not but vaseline is a very good eye makeup remover

Dalesgirl16 · 08/10/2017 21:13

janeways I use benefit mascara too. Never heard of tubing mascara but going to look into it!

I have bought the Blephasol today and just used it.
Sadly it too is making my eyelids sting and they have swollen up, red and raw. I am also taking an anti histamine.

I've got very sensitive skin too, eczema etc. I like La Roche Posay moisturisers but the best cleanser I've found is cetaphil. You can use it as a face wash or as a wipe on/off cleanser.

RidiculousDiversion · 08/10/2017 21:35

Warm water and this - I also use their moisturiser. And a clean flannel every night helps a lot, too.

PeaceLoveAndDixie · 08/10/2017 22:15

I would recommend olive oil too, it's really very effective

Auburn2001 · 08/10/2017 23:21

Oh no allergia how awful Flowers

FrenchQuarter · 08/10/2017 23:24

Another one who says are you sure it isn't blepharitis? (google it to death)

It's (this may not be the correct term) it's a form of virus/bacteria/infection and won't clear up unless you manage it carefully

Basically you need something antibiotic to deal with it - golden eye ointment worked for me - in combination with properly cleaning (ie. Milton sterilising or new) anything that comes near your eyes. Either throw away all your make up brushes and mascara and buy new ones OR sterlise the hell out of them with Milton or something else.

But to answer your question L'oreale Eye Make Up Remover (blue liquid one ) is brilliant and highly recommended.

FrenchQuarter · 08/10/2017 23:26

I should add that I came across the L'oreal eye make up remover after first blepharitis and enquired widely - friends, drs, my own GP, internet forums and Mr Google.

That's how I found it as it was highly recommended by different sources and I agree!

Dalesgirl16 · 09/10/2017 08:14

This is what it looked like after taking makeup off. It’s practically gone after a few days of Eumovate. Red and sore inner eye and underneath. I’m not going to use makeup remover again and see how I go but I do wear a lot of eye makeup!

Just try olive oil or coconut oil and see how you get on.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 09/10/2017 08:38

I wonder if it's worth changing your mascara in case it's getting into your eyes and irritating them when it's being taken off?
