Help me get out of jeans!

At the weekends, I just go for jeans and a top. I'd like alternatives to jeans! During the week I'm in dresses or smart trousers for work.

Is there a style similar to the cargo trend of the 90's? I loved wearing those, really comfortable, soft and relaxed.

I really would like to wear my jeans less, but cargo pants!? Yuck! They don't suit anybody!

I know some people dislike Toast but I think they do slouchy but well cut trousers better than anywhere I know on the high st.

I know joinourclub - I was wondering about a current, more stylish alternative. Maybe just cotton trousers?

I should add, my budget is not high. It's more New Look than Toast.

Not quite what you're asking, but now we're in to autumn have you looked at jumper/sweater dresses? I really like them - wear with opaques and boots, looks like you've made an effort, but so cosy and comfortable.

Hush has these and they're lovely in real life.

Floisme · 30/09/2017 10:30

Yeah Toast is expensive - the sales are good though and they very occasionally have them in TK Maxx.

H&M did some decent very slouchy, pleated chinos in the summer - I don't know if they'll put out a more autumnal version but worth a look.

Fabellini · 30/09/2017 10:31

Ah, sorry OP, I just saw your budget comment...you might think the Hush ones are a little pricey. They are honestly lovely though!

I've been thinking the same thing, OP. Fed up of my weekend uniform of jeans and top/shirt. I've bought a couple of shirt dresses from Boohoo.com and Asos, and find them so easy to wear with thick tights and boots, they look nice in a casual sort of way too. Good for this changeable weather and can chuck on a thick cardi when the weather gets colder.

I haven't found any trousers that can replace jeans, although I am tall so have trouble finding anything but the basics in trousers and jeans.

I've got some skinny grey cords for the winter. Will make a change from jeans!

itusedtobeverydifferent · 30/09/2017 10:44

Aubern oh I forget about cords! Good recommendation.

I would like jumper dresses, not a clue where to begin. I like denim shirt dresses too but haven't found any flattering ones yet. I'm slim but have a tummy and am pretty short!

I'm short, and have bought jumper dresses from New Look in the past, OP. They often turn up on eBay.
