Holiday makeup - help please!

I'm going to Cape Verde next month. Obviously it's going to be hot. I'm mid 40s and my skin isn't great - I usually wear medium coverage foundation on a daily basis because I'm a bit blotchy and blemishy and I need good under eye concealer.

The thought of going totally makeup free (even with the tan I'll hopefully get) is a bit terrifying, so what can I use that will withstand the heat and not make me look like I'm wearing a full face of slap?

Skin is combination, quite coarse with big pores. I really do look better with some primer/ powder smoothing things out a bit.

I think it might be because most people (that I know, anyway) don’t bother with makeup on holiday if they’re lounging about. I just sweat it off 😂 I don’t like the waste and faffing about with SPF and makeup so just keep it for the evenings. Tbh if you’re wearing a mahoosive hat and sunnies you can only see a little bit of your face anyway!

If I have not convinced you, Bobbi Brown’s stick foundation works hard in the heat- pair with a setting spray and you might fair better than Sweaty Betty over here.

Thanks thecraicdealer - hopefully after a day or so the self-consciousness will dissipate. I have some cc cream which is lighter weight than what I usually wear so I'll take that, and yes, big hat and sunnies will help (and make me look enigmatic and glamorous, hopefully!)

I used double wear light foundation.
Waterproof mascara
And a pink lipstick on holiday.

I bought Origins GinZing SPF 40 for our holiday, it may not give enough coverage for what you want though but I liked it.

I am taking bare minerals complexion rescue on holiday next month, its really light but builds up well. For a cheaper product I like bourjois cc cream.

Eyelashes tinted before I go away (blue/black) so they stand out a bit more.

Daytime - Clinique City Block Spf 25 or 40, or normal suncream.

Evening - City Block, Laura Geller Tahitian glow bronzer, eyeliner, mascara and lippie (usually something a bit brighter than I normally wear depending on how tanned I am).

Hi

I watched two youtubers who did a thing on like holiday makeup kinda thing.

basically I was no foundation just spot/area concealing and strobe cream and a liquid bronzer.

if you check out imogenation and hollyboon on youtube and find the vids on their channels. they are labelled no foundation & holiday skin I think.

obviously they might be a bit diff to your style but they give good products and things you can do so you don't have to wear a full face of foundation etc.

enjoy your hol:)

Thanks for the recommendations - I will check out the Bourjois CC cream and also the youtube videos and also the sunscreen. I'm feeling a bit more confident now about not being the holiday minger!

Ambre Solaire, La Roche Posay, Clinique (and loads of others) do tinted facial sunscreen. I used to use an Amber Solaire one which doesn't seem to exist anymore but they're probably all quite similar and the coverage was pretty good.

I haven't used it by my Mum recommends the Avène spf50 compact too.

Have a lovely holiday!

Just popping back in to say I bought the Bourjois CC cream and it's amazing! I always thought cc creams were for people with already lovely skin but it looks fab on and feels nice and light. Going away on Thursday and very excited. Thanks for all your helpful suggestions Smile
