Can they be black? (you can buy black ones, obv.... but I'm not sure they feel right)

can you wear brown brogues with black jeans?

You can't wear black brogues with a blue dress, can you?

Please help!

Thank you

Yes. I love doing this (tan in my case rather than dark brown, jeans turned up a bit and a visible stripy sock).

Depends, IMO. If you've got nice little feet and/or a generally 'pretty' look, then yes. If like me you're short-haired and tall with massive plates of meat then you'll look like Miss Trunchbull/Eddie Izzard on a bad drag day.

Having said all that, at the end of the day of course you can wear what you jolly well want to wear!

Ooh, I was hoping for a link, I like a good brogue. Smile

RhiannonOHara · 27/09/2017 15:18

No link, sorry, but I have a pair from the men's section in TK Maxx and they're SO comfortable. So that's my tip –look at men's ones (if your feet are big enough!)

AntiGrinch · 27/09/2017 15:23

Thanks Rhiannon!

tobee - I'm looking at Clarks ones.

The brogues with dress thing is ok for me - I am small and have short feet - I think it looks pretty good, a knee length shift with opaques. The question is about colour - I think I'm going to go for a chocolatey brown - which will work better with the blue dress - and it seems that I am also allowed to wear them with black jeans.

Chocolate brown looks lovely with blue.

AntiGrinch · 27/09/2017 15:38

How do men's sizes work? Can you buy the same size as you would in women's?

OP posts:
RhiannonOHara · 27/09/2017 15:46

I'm a size smaller in my men's ones, but I don't know if that's the same across all labels and sizes.

LentilBaby · 27/09/2017 15:46

My black brogues are patent leather.....gives them a more girlie, dressy feel that goes with anything.

MrsNathanDrake · 27/09/2017 15:49

I highly recommend Clark's Hamble Oak brougues (pp has linked to them above). They are so comfortable. I have them in patent black and am having to resist the temptation to get them in other colours as well!

AntiGrinch · 27/09/2017 15:51

Thanks MrsNathan, I think you've pushed me over the line :)

Yep....mine are Clarks too...super comfy. Also have the same ones in mushroom grey.....gorgeous for summer!

Sheusedtobesomeonelse · 27/09/2017 16:08

I am desperate for a pair of brogues as can't be wearing heels every day.. Geox have a lovely pair in their new collection but rather spendy.. The Clarks look good!
Ideally i'd have a pair of brown mens ones and a simple black pair too.. just in case Grin

tinytoucan · 27/09/2017 16:26

I have them in black (not patent) and really wish I'd got the brown instead! I think brown go with more.

Butterfly1975 · 27/09/2017 17:13

I have plain black leather Hamble Oaks and wear them a lot to work with smart black jeans or slim leg black trousers. I do also wear them with jeans but I've always worn either black shoes/boots with jeans - a lighter shade of denim works better.

CountFosco · 27/09/2017 19:52

Was hoping from recommendations! I got some bargain navy brogues from the Dune summer sale last year and have worn them at least once a week since then. Thinking I'd like some burgundy or oxblood ones but haven't seen the perfect pair yet.

LemonBreeland · 27/09/2017 19:58

I love the hamble oaks. I have black and cream/pink/beige ones. They are comfortable and not too clumpy

buggerthebotox · 27/09/2017 20:27

Another Hamble Oaks fan here! I've got a metallic gold pair.

SummerSun1234 · 27/09/2017 20:35

Can u wear them with socks? Or do you wear them without?

Unicorn81 · 27/09/2017 20:39

I have black hamble oak and wear with jeans or trousers for work (black). They go with anything really and id rather black than brown. The burgundy ones are nice too

LentilBaby · 27/09/2017 22:06

I like to wear them with socks but look lovely without.

kingfishergreen · 27/09/2017 22:13

I have three pairs of Hamble Oaks from over the past few years: tan, patent cherry and silvery-grey.

I was planning a new pair this winter - maybe patent black.

buggerthebotox · 28/09/2017 07:49

I wear mine with socks but I love the "No sock" look better. I find it hard to achieve though as they always slide down into the shoe.

RhiannonOHara · 28/09/2017 09:49

I like them with a nice pair of socks visible. But how about those invisible mini-sock things like these for the no-sock look?

dantdmistedious · 28/09/2017 16:29

I like tan and black jeans.

I've just bought patent black hamble oaks to break it up against black tights a tiny bit and the netley rose patent burgundy ones )well it is payday!).

museumum · 28/09/2017 16:54

I saw some beautiful burgundy red or dead ones in schuh.
Not sure I can justify as I already have pewter hamble oaks but maybe....
